The new Coronavirus is spreading faster and beyond 366,948 cases are reported worldwide causing 16,100 deaths in 182 countries and territories. COVID-19 is a family of viruses that usually cause diseases in animals but the seven, including the new viruses, have made the jump to humans. On December 31st, 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported the first-ever case of this unknown-virus in Wuhan, a city in Eastern China, and it is now officially declared that the outbreak is a pandemic.
Being a respiratory virus, it spreads in a variety of ways where person to person contact is the main method of transmission, if the infected person sneezes, coughs or shakes hand with you. It can also be picked up from infected surfaces such as public toilets, elevators, kitchen counters, toilet bowls, bathroom sinks, etc. The worst part is that the symptoms may take anywhere from 14-20 days to show up.
ADVICE FOR THE PUBLIC
It is encouraged by doctors to one and all to thoroughly wash their hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water to kill viruses that may be on your hands. Maintain at least a distance of 1 meter (3 feet) between yourself or anyone because by being close you can breathe in the droplets if the person coughing has the disease. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth. Wear masks. If you feel any difficulty while breathing, seek immediate medical help.
CORONAVIRUS QUARANTINE
Please practice social distancing!
People with COVID-19 symptoms are self-isolating themselves as a minimum for seven days, where families in which one person was showing symptoms were to quarantine themselves for 14 days. “It is possible that social distancing and flattening the curve will also reduce the number of people that will become infected,” says David McCoy, professor of global public health at the Queen Mary University of London.
WORKING REMOTELY
Largest global companies including Apple, Google, Oracle, and several others asked their employees to work remotely as a precaution against the virus. Not every employee is used to working from home, which means they must be figuring out how to stay on task in this new work-home environment. “Loneliness can make people feel less motivated and less productive.” We surely know that working from home can feel unstructured and isolating but there are ways to stay productive and still deliver results.
GET DRESSED
You may find this idea silly but the concept of staying in your pajamas can make you become an indolent person, hence CLOTHE! Wearing respectable clothes will upsurge motivation. It will help your brain to understand that you are not on vacation. Choose yourself a place which is less-noisy, less-comfortable, and make sure there is no radio or TV in front of you.
ESTABLISH BOUNDARIES
Even if you are working from home it is important to set hours of work. Sleep on time so that you get sufficient sleep and be ready to start your shift the same as you would normally arrive at the workplace. Make a list of tasks you need to achieve during your shift hours and make it a habit of leaving nothing undone.
DO NOT SELF-ISOLATE
If at any moment, you get a feeling like you are cooped up in a room, put your shoes on and go outside to get some fresh air. Do get distracted by your co-employees in a telephonic conversation to make yourself feel like you are not working unaccompanied. Rely on some real conversation!
TOP TIP
Remember, you are only being working from home for a short period of time, nice though it may be, but set up kind of a temporary office in your house. Built a setup that is a lot easier and suits your work.
