Working with diverse teams
Have you ever found yourself in a team, particularly in a work environment when you need to make critical business decisions, but the communication seems not to sync across the team because of diversity?
Working with diversified teams is like learning to navigate a ship in a tempestuous sea; understanding the dynamics of the sea, the weather, and steering your ship to align and to ride the turbulent tides. It's an arduous task that every captain must master.
Deciphering the body language and the general paralinguistics of the team; ensuring no misinterpretation and assuring team members that we are all working towards the same goal, is one skill I've acquired during the course of my study at Hult IBS.
In the midst of misunderstanding, arguments, cultural and individual differences, I've learned to listen better, to leverage both the strength and the weakness of the team and to come up with solutions that each member can connect to and relate with - Yes, compromise. It's amazing.
In most cases, I've been upset over a period of time, misjudged, laughed at; which things that naturally work my nerves. In each case, I've learned to wriggle free of the emotion. Though a struggle, but I learned nevertheless, having to go through it over and again, I've learned to see different perspectives, understand intentions and made new friends.
Over these past months, I've worked with outstanding professionals on 9 teams, from 23 different countries, across 5 continents.
