Working on the Clyde Viaduct with Story Contracting

McCulloch Group was recently asked to assist our valued client, Story Contracting, on the major repair works on the Clyde Viaduct at Rutherglen, during an 8 week blockade.

Works included the removal of 987 a&b points, as well as the associated plain line, to allow Story to carry out vital repairs to the viaduct.

Week 50

At this point in the project, all 987 a&b points and around 400 yards of associated plain line were removed and positioned in sidings, allowing Story to refurbish the points and build up plain line panels for renewal of the line through the viaduct.

McCulloch Group carried out these works using a mixture of our adapted 6 and 9 Tonne Panel Lifter systems, providing our Turnout Solution.

The works were both a success as well as serving as a valuable exercise, given that this was the first time in the UK that S&C had been removed in panels, without the use of the standard, more expensive and cumbersome methods such as cranes or PEM-LEMs.

Week 52

A fortnight later, 987 a&b points and associated plain line were installed using a combination of our 6, 7.5 and 9 Tonne Panel Lifters.

Installation went off without a hitch with all 987 a&b points installed in under an hour, in 4 panels. The remaining plain line; new EG47 sleepers in 60 ft panels; was all installed in under 8 hours. The Panel Lifters transported the panels from the sidings which was between 300 and 400 yards away from the site of work.
