Working Clown
I painted Working Clown to explore my own relationship with work and the expectations of being a man in the western world. As an artist I am idealistic and often impractical. Work and I have a troubled history. There have been times that at work I’ve been pushed beyond myself. I don’t appreciate the devils who do this and can be quite angry with them, however it is at these times that I have also grown the most.
This painting expresses the contradiction of feeling foolish while growing beyond my own limitations. It is often in that vulnerable place outside my comfort zone that I grow the most. These challenges put me in situations that I wouldn't choose to be in. Work has often been a blessing and a curse.
The original painting is now in a private collection, it is acrylic paint 75 cm by 100 cm on a stretched deep edged linen canvas.
