Workin'? 9 to 5?
Time is a construct of human invention. If we neve have time, how can we ever make time?

Workin' 9 to 5?

The 9 to 5 work day, also known as the "standard workday," is a schedule that consists of eight hours of work, followed by eight hours of leisure time and eight hours of sleep. This schedule is believed to have originated in the 19th century, during the Industrial Revolution.

Before the Industrial Revolution, work schedules were largely determined by the availability of natural light. People would typically start working at sunrise and stop at sunset, with breaks for meals and rest. However, the invention of the electric lightbulb in the early 1800s changed this, as it allowed people to work longer hours in factories and other industrial settings.

The 9 to 5 work day is believed to have originated in the United States in the early 20th century. During this time, many workers were employed in factories, where they worked long and grueling hours for low pay. In an effort to improve working conditions and protect workers' rights, labor unions began advocating for a standard workday of eight hours.

In 1926, the International Labor Organization (ILO) adopted the Eight-Hour Day and Forty-Eight-Hour Week Convention, which called for the adoption of a standard workweek of eight hours per day and 48 hours per week. This convention was ratified by a number of countries, including the United States, and helped establish the 9 to 5 work day as the norm in many parts of the world.

Today, the 9 to 5 work day is still the standard schedule for many workers, although there is a growing trend towards more flexible work arrangements. Many companies now offer flexible schedules, telecommuting options, and other arrangements that allow workers to have more control over their work hours, though 9-5 remains a widely-used and important part of the modern work landscape.

It's difficult to say what working hours people prefer nowadays, as preferences can vary depending on a number of factors, including the individual's personal circumstances, the type of work they do, and the culture of their organization. In general, however, many people prefer to work a predictable schedule with regular hours, as this can help them to maintain a good work-life balance and avoid burnout. Some people may prefer to work longer hours during the week and have a shorter workweek, while others may prefer the opposite. Ultimately, the best working hours for an individual will depend on their specific needs and preferences. I myself prefer to work as little as possible.

Some people may enjoy the flexibility and autonomy that comes with working remotely, while others may miss the social interaction and support of a physical workplace. In general, remote work can be a great option for some people, but it may not be suitable for everyone. It's important for individuals to consider their own needs and preferences when deciding whether remote work is a good fit for them.
