Workforce Board

Exciting Updates from the Dakota Scott Workforce Board

Today, I had the privilege of attending the Dakota Scott Workforce Board meeting, where I contribute not only as a board member appointed by the Dakota County Board of Commissioners but also as Employee Benefits Advisor. My experience in business equips me to provide valuable insights that benefit both the counties, SSP city residents and the clients I work with daily. (These are THREE of the main reasons I accepted the board appointment)

Monthly Dakota - Scott Workforce Development Board Meeting

During our discussions, we tackled important trends impacting our workforce. Notably, layoffs continue to be a concern, particularly in Rochester Minnesota, while the number of job seekers is on the rise in that area and the Twin Cities Metro. We also observed increased usage of Career Centers and the Dislocated Workers Program, highlighting the community's responsiveness to these challenges.

A key presentation titled "Eye on the Future" addressed the pressing issues of housing costs, availability challenges, and opportunities.

  • Insights from Fred Corrigan (Scott County Live, Learn, Earn),
  • Andrea Brennan (Greater Minnesota Housing Fund),
  • Nick Erickson (Housing First Minnesota)

Provided valuable perspectives on how we can adapt to these evolving conditions.

By staying informed on these trends, the board can identify solutions to support large and small businesses and their workforce. With this information I can better advise my community and my clients to help them navigate the complexities of our economic landscape.
