Work Your Window
As I sit here with a list of important and time sensitive tasks before me, my brain has other plans. Every day around 2pm I try to crank out things that call for mental energy and clarity, but my brain is like, "Nope." If I'm honest with myself, my best work happens in the morning.
During some of my workshops and keynote presentations on self-care I share a strategy called Flip Your Formulas . This surfaced for me during the pandemic. I observed people trying to push through and get all of the personal and professional things done during traditional business hours, even though there was nothing traditional about the reality we were facing.
I have come to the awareness that my afternoons are made for mindless tasks that take little to no cerebral capacity. Therefore, my ideal work window is between 9am and 2pm. After that time, my body clearly communicates what I need. Sometimes it needs to do physical tasks, and at other times it needs a break or a nap. Instead of resisting, we must start listening to the wisdom of our physiology.
?As I map out my days, I am moving my tasks into their most powerful positions on my schedule to maximize my time and talent.
