With the New Year well underway I’d love to know how’s it going for you so far? Perhaps you’re still riding the wave of optimism, ticking off personal resolutions or smashing early goals. Or maybe it’s been more of a slow, post-holiday start as you ease back into work mode.
Either way, January is the perfect time to reflect on what you want to achieve - not just personally, but professionally too. While many of us focus on health, fitness, or hobbies, setting thoughtful business development (BD) resolutions can really impact how your 2025 with pan out.

That’s where the Questas “5 in 2025” comes in. These five practical resolutions are simple to adopt but powerful in impact, helping you build stronger relationships, uncover more opportunities, and elevate your BD results.

1. Reach out to one dormant contact each week
Reconnecting with people you’ve lost touch with is a low-pressure way to grow opportunities. Whether it’s a client you worked with years ago or a prospect you had a great conversation with but never followed up on, make it a habit to send one friendly message each week. A quick “I was just thinking about you - how’s everything going – it would be good to catch up?” can open the door to new opportunities.

2. Share value with your network every month
Position yourself as a trusted adviser by regularly sharing helpful insights. This could be through a LinkedIn post, forwarding an article, or hosting a short webinar. Aim to do this monthly and focus on providing information that genuinely benefits your audience. The key is to demonstrate your expertise in a way that’s relevant and useful to them.

3. Schedule regular client catch-ups
Set a resolution to meet or speak with key clients quarterly - not just to discuss current projects, but to explore their broader goals and challenges. These conversations often uncover new opportunities, help strengthen relationships, and keep you front of mind when they’re ready to move forward on new initiatives.

4. Dedicate time for strategic thinking
It’s easy to get caught up in day-to-day tasks, but don’t let strategy fall by the wayside. Block out two hours each month to review your BD efforts, evaluate your pipeline, and plan the next steps. Use this time to identify what’s working, what’s not, and where you should focus your energy. I often like to do this at the end of each month to see if the month in question went to plan and give me focus for the following month.

5. Commit to one professional development activity each quarter
Stay sharp by investing in your skills and knowledge. Whether it’s attending a workshop, joining a networking event, or reading a BD-focused book, ongoing learning ensures you stay ahead of the curve and brings fresh ideas into your conversations with clients.
