Work Organisation, Labour & Globalisation

Work Organisation, Labour and Globalisation Volume 18, Issue 2?offers a rich smorgasbord of articles. ?On the 50th anniversary of the publication of Harry Braverman’s ground-breaking Labour and Monopoly Capital, the opening article, “The abstraction of labour from the factory to the platform: charting the visual language of automation” by Tsvetelina Hristova, makes an important new contribution to the literature on labour process theory. ?Shreya Katayayani’s article “From the Girmitiya to the Makful : Sketching the continuity in migrant labour systems provides a fascinating insight into migration from South Asia to the Gulf States, pointing out its historical parallels with the indenture system during the colonial period, illustrated with quotations from migrant workers. A survey article by Javier Arribas Camar, Luis Cardenas and Adrian Rial provides an overview of the evidence of “The effects of the minimum wage on inequalities in the labour market”.

Further empirical research is presented in two articles from Portugal, drawing on research among two very different kinds of platform workers, "Airbnb workers and "Tuk-tuk drivers, by Isabel Roque, Renato Miguel do Carmo, Jorge Caleiras and Rodrigo Vieira de Assis and authors Isabel Roque and Nuna Boavida. ?

And finally a highly topical contribution, by Vyshnovetska Svitlana Vasylivna, Vyshnovetskyi Vadym Mychailovych, Dyban Maksym Petrovych, Kmetyk Khrystyna Volodymyrivna and Chernous Svitlana Mykolayivna offers a window into what is happening in "the labour market in Ukraine under conditions of martial law.
