Work Online From Anywhere even Spain

Now i am living in Spain but where every you live why now learn how to work online from anywhere you like?

Are you thinking about Paella on the playa or sangria under the stars, long  afternoon siestas ?As Britain wakes up to yet another dreary cold december day, moving to the sunny Spain has never seemed more appealing. Tens of thousands of us have done just that: since 1995, more than 800,000 emigrants have swapped bleak wet and windy UK for a better life in sunny Spain.

However, the Spanish Dream life isn’t all it once seemed ,as expats are now returning to Britain in their droves. and here i will let you into why I think that is and what you can do to not be one of the ones the give up on that dream.

Over 80,000 abandoned their Mediterranean dream last year alone, with town hall registers across Spain recording a 25 per cent drop in expats since January 2012. And it’s not only Brits who are heading home as the German and French populations also fell, with only the Chinese nationality increasing their presence in the country.

Local estimates put the figures even higher, with reports in English language newspapers suggesting that some 20,000 Brits want to leave the Costa del Sol alone. And many other areas popular with UK expats, there could be as many as 50,000 more hoping to head home. The real figures might be even higher.

The Spanish dream, it seems, is dying. But what’s behind the big exodus? Are Brits really fed up of sun-drenched beaches, clear blue skies and the fab laid-back lifestyle?

No way ...: the enduring effects of the crisis are thought to be to blame, with a shrinking jobs market and slump in property prices driving them home. Unemployment in Spain stands at 26 per cent a European high and cuts that once only affected local firms have since struck at foreign companies and put entrepreneurs and small local businesses out of business.

Below is my view this morning 1st December first light.

So how can you avoid being  one of these statistics?

After moving from the UK to Almeria in Spain over 12 years ago now, I have see many changes here and now being married to a Spanish girl i can see both sides of the story.

When i first moved here i found work as a carpenter and builder and there was plenty or work about then even though the money was not that of the UK it was enough to live the dream life in the sun.

After only about 3 years here the crisis hit and it had a real hold over Spain as many people and building works just stopped almost overnight as people were unsure just what was on the cards for the future. Even little jobs were put on the back burner and this had a knock on effect for everyone.

So why has it been so hard for the expats here and why are so many moving back home.

In my personal opinion there are 3 main reasons and I fell into all 3 of these at first and nearly moved back myself.

1.Not learning Spanish.

About 90% of expats that move to Spain do not speak Spanish even after several years of living here and here are my reasons why i think this is.

We Brits are slow to learn another language as living in the UK most people speak English and if we go abroad we can nearly always find someone to speak English and almost expect it.

Here in Spain  only the very touristy areas speak English and many of the children leave school now being able to speak 2 or 3 languages , where as in the UK although we are thought other languages , most leave school with less than the basic language skills.

It is ok living here and ordering a drink or some food but most of the expats here struggle to do even that in Spanish as they tend to stay with other local Brits and therefore only speak English, this also  applies  to German and French too.

Working as a carpenter for all these nationalities, I have seen this in all of them.

When it comes to getting the car serviced or buying property 90% have to pay to have an interpreter present.

When it comes to learning  Spanish i so often hear the Brits say " oh i will soon pick up the lingo" but they never do. I too was like this until i found myself along here and had to learn as i went self employed.

If you are going to live in a new country then you MUST learn that language and even start learning before you come.

  1. Not mixing with local Spanish people.

This not mixing is really down to the Language barrier again but also i have seen so many times Brits move here and first head straight for the local English bar for a pint.

This is the start of it really, making friends with other Brits and not even trying to mix with the locals.

Many times i see expats having a drink in a bar eating English food when there is a Spanish bar next door with cheaper prices. ok even i like some English things now and again but most expats do not even try to mix and try new things they are really only here for the sun.

We are free to live as we wish i know but not mixing with the locals and trying to integrate into the Spanish way of life is half the reason why most end up struggling here.

Once i joined a Spanish walking club and started mixing with Spanish people a new world was opened up to me and even though it can be hard to start off, you will really see what it is really like to live in Spain.

Meeting my now Spanish wife at a Spanish dance party I now have not only a Spanish wife but most of my friends are Spanish too. OK so you do not have to get married to a local but just trying to mix in will help you to grow real roots here and see just what it is like not just the cheap beer and sandy beaches.

3: Not adapting to your new environment

Once most people move to Spain, one of the first things they do is get English tv and look for the nearest shop to buy their English foods.

Just a few days ago i was in my local supermarket ( Spanish) and heard a English couple about 50 ask a shop assistant " where is the kellogs cornflakes?" The girl just shrugged her shoulders as she had no idea what they wanted and the guy turned to his wife and said " she is no good she does not understand anything" This says it all really and there  are so many Brits that are just like that it makes me feel so embarrassed. If they had just bothered to try the local Spanish cereal they would have found that it is almost the same as any other that we may buy in the UK but the thing is they never even try.

If you are thinking of moving to Spain or already living here PLEASE try and avoid these basic mistakes  and may be your stay here will be a long and happy one.

Finding work here is still difficult and i am shocked at the amount of English people that think it will be no problem even as many of them have no idea how to speak Spanish. They will soon understand that they are competing for jobs with the locals who are used to working hard long hours for little money.

There is an alternative that I have found that would suit so many expats here and that is working online as i now do.

Although i still do a little work as a carpenter for locals here, my main income is now from my online business and as the online world is in English 90% of the time, this is a great way of having both worlds, the Spanish way of life and the Online business that any English person could generate their income with.
