Work Life Balance-Myth or Reality???

Work Life Balance-Myth or Reality???

Work Life Balance as the name suggests is the division of one's time and focus between working and family or leisure activities.

In true sense "Work” and “life” aren’t separate — and we should embrace a notion of “work-life balance” that understands their interconnectivity. Both work and home require our best selves, says Care.com CEO Sheila Lirio Marcelo.

But the problem is that "Most people chase success at work, thinking that will make them happy. The truth is that happiness at work will make you successful.”-Alexander Kjerulf. And the grave reality is that "Most of us spend too much time on what is urgent and not enough time on what is important."-Stephen R Covey.

“The idea of ‘work-life balance’ suggests we should check our family lives at the door when we arrive at the office and leave our work behind when we head home that work and family are two separate ledgers in zero-sum competition with each other. But we know from experience that's not the way the world works.”

Personally I have so much admiration for women who are mothers, who balance family and work at the same time and feel a lot can be learnt from them !! The art of having a work-life balance is a trick, rather a skill that we all should continously thirve to learn & master as a human being. Life may be a burden of worries, but there is a way to keep our loved ones untouched from these worries.

It is definitely time to remember quote from His Excellency Late Shree APJ Abdul Kalam ''“Love your job?but don’t love your company,?because you may not know?when your company?stops loving you.” If you just implement? this, automatically you have achieved balance between two.

Good idea for Amazon. This will help them. Some polite questions to Amit: 1. What time will he be leaving office and shutting mails until tomorrow? (Honest answer please)? 2. As a corollary will all employees' cell phones, (including Amit's) be collected at the entry point and returned at the time of leaving work. Obviously, it has to work both ways.? If employees don't have to touch work after working hours, they should bot be touching their personal phones during day time. They can be contacted over landlines. 3. Setting a standard for whom? Amzaon employees or the nation in general? If its only Amzaon I have no issues, but for rest of country where a good percentage of employees don't work full 8 hours a day, (visit any govt. office) what other option does the employer have than asking for the days deliverable completed - no matter when? 4. Are we really leveraging technology, and ability to answer effortless questions in the evening which require no big effort but can save hours on the following day? Then why not resort to Land Line and Telex Era.? just asking .... ( I support work life balance)?

Good to see business focusing on the quality and welfare of employees outwith working hours and on holiday. Finally are we aware of the levels of burnout of our workforce and need for a harmonious work/life balance. Consideration forb flexible working, suits lifestyle requirements and nature of business within a global outreach. All things in balance. Thank you for tagging me
