Finding a work-life balance can be a difficult task for many of us. Use these tips to help find a healthy work-life balance that makes you feel fulfilled and happy.
I feel accomplished that I can say I'm one of the few people that hurry to work, and also hurry home. There are 24 hours each day, and we all have shit to do but we need to balance our foundational principles to be happy.
Work-Life Balance requires Balanced Values
Understand that our personal values are integral, which is why I hurry both to home and to work. My personal values include my character, integrity, family, love, friends, and other intangible things in my life.
I have experiential values, which is the situational knowledge I’ve acquired from childhood to growing up and adolescence, high school, college, sports that I've played, and even law school.
What can you give?
Don't forget giving values. What legacy am I going to leave? What do I do every day to help other people? My prayer every morning is that the world puts 10 new people in front of me that I can help.
To balance my giving values, I have my receiving values. When I travel around, speaking around the world, I ask people “If you had to bankrupt one of these 4 values, what would you bankrupt? Would you dare bankrupt your character, your health, your love, your integrity?" Nobody would. Would you dare to bankrupt your experiences? What you've learned through life and school and work? Nobody would. Would you bankrupt your legacy? Would you bankrupt everything you've done for other people? Nobody would.
What do you have?
Every single person, out of the thousands of people that I've asked, all say they would bankrupt their receiving values. They prefer to give away what they have because we can always get that back. My story proves it. We have to be able to balance the good and the bad with a positive perspective with all four values. Do this and get clarity, a balance of values, and focus. These bring confidence, which allows us to be in the flow. Become inspired and happy. Balance our foundation and have an optimistic attitude (one of gratitude, empathy, accountability, and effective communication), and actually be excited to rush to work and rush home from work.
