For me, exercise is kind of non-negotiable, because without it I get restless. I find it harder to sleep and to focus during the day. I love running, swimming and weightlifting at the gym. I’m glad to be able to exercise throughout the working week, because Westpac has a focus on having a healthy work life balance. In fact, there are even health and fitness activities we can take part in while we’re at work.
On Tuesdays, I do midday meditation sessions and on Thursday afternoons, I do yoga. The classes are free and hosted by the building owner Mirvac – all we have to do is turn up. The view of Sydney Harbour from the 23rd floor where we do yoga is incredible. You can even do the classes in your work clothes if you forget to bring a change of gear!
When I started the yoga classes I wasn't too sure what I was doing, but after about three sessions, I began to understand the poses. Nowadays I feel a difference in myself. I'm definitely more flexible, and I feel calmer and more relaxed. The classes also help me stay mindful and clear-headed, which I find helps me to meet my professional responsibilities and personal fitness goals.
I have a very active social life – in large part because I’m a committee member on The Youth Network, which is one of Westpac’s employee advocacy groups. There are heaps of social events, from pub trivia to panels with guest speakers and fitness events. I’m kind of living through it at the moment! I started a running club at Westpac and in August we completed the City to Surf together. It was fantastic. We trained together before work from the start of July.

Something else that I love doing outside of work is fashion photography and modelling. I really enjoy curating the scene, which is a blend of street fashion with high fashions in all different kinds of urban settings. I’ve been with Westpac for over two years, and throughout that time I’ve been able to pursue my interests outside of work.
Our team at Westpac is really flexible and supportive. We also work a blended week, with three days per week at the office and two from home.
Being able to pursue my interests outside of work and meet my fitness goals is very important to my wellbeing. I’m grateful to Westpac for fostering a work culture that helps me to thrive.
Aligned to the ‘We Thrive’ pillar of our?People Promise,?Westpac supports maintaining physical and mental health through a range of flexibility options and wellbeing support options.
