It is never a struggle to balance Work & Life its about the choices that you make where you want to invest your ENERGY.
Today when your office & house are in the same premises you wonder how to balance your work life and family time. It is a constant juggle of dividing yourself between these aspects of your life and you always feel of not giving enough to any piece of your life.
Today your desktop and your mind is not only filled with office deadlines but also with expectation from your family, children and your health. So how to deal with everything together and how do we actually balance the work and life momentum. Many experts and even blogs talk about managing time and dividing your time into work and life. DO you think TIME can be divided like this specially when you are so pressed from all sides. TIME is just 24 hours for every one and its same for every living being. Break the myth of TIME MANAGEMENT as TIME can never be controlled or managed its all about how are you MANAGING YOURSELF.
In this article I present to you 6 SIZZLING STEPS to overcome this dilemma of WORK LIFE BALANCE and get the best in all the aspects so that you have a happy and successful life. Lets start
- Break the Myth of WORK & LIFE Being Separate : Yes you heard me right. You can never cut the PIE (which is YOURSELF) into 2 equal halves and give it WORK & LIFE. You are the same pie and both are within you. You need to understand that there would be days when you would be giving more to WORK and some days you would be giving more to LIFE. It can never be 50:50. However hard you try this is an impossible task because your energies can be divided. You have to UNDERSTAND the POWER OF NOW to be able to maintain this balance. So when you are at WORK TABLE be at the work table dont peep out and see what is happening outside the door. When you are with your family or in your me time be present in that moment, dont peep in your work table to see any unfinished work or emails or chat with office colleague. BE PRESENT where you are. This would give you a good balance in work and life in such COVID situation.
- Communication Plays a VITAL Role : Gone are the days when people understood without even you opening your mouth. There are no Broadcasting happening so you have to COMMUNICATE clearly. List down your goals or vision or whatever you want to achieve and how you want to achieve and share it with yourself first so that you are clear about what you want in life. Then share the same goals with your office space and family space and let them also know what is your thoughts, your line of action & your progress. If you are taking a break let them know so that no one disturbs you. of you are working extra long hours let your family know about it. Don't assume anything because that leads to confusion. Be clear and crisp on your communication because virtual medium is very dicey. Always show empathy in your communication that is a skill you need to develop. You may be very clear in communication but dont forget we are all humans and emergencies are part of our life so always be empathetic towards your colleagues or family and pitch in when they need you, this would help you also in return when you need them they would be happy to pitch in. A clear communication can do this trick for you.
- PRIORITIZE Your TASKS: We all make our TO DO LIST and keep it on our sticky notes on desk or desktop. Many a times we are found to complete the tasks which were of no priority at all because we thought its priority whereas it was not. I would suggest please make a priority matrix like and make 4 quadrants and put your all TO DO task in this matrix and see what falls where. The 4 quadrants are HIGH PRIORITY ACTIVITY (HPA), MEDIUM PRIORITY ACTIVITY (MPA) LOW PRIORITY ACTIVITY (LPA) and NO PRIORITY ACTIVITY (NPA). Put all your task in these quadrants for the month and then divide it into weeks Priority quadrants too. Every day pic 1 HPA + 2 MPA + 3 LPA and complete these and you will see by the end of the week you are done with the Major chunk of your task which would give you the desired results. After doing this please be satisfied dont always keep pushing yourself to do more as such working from home and at home is a big task. Learn to be satisfied with yourself
- BE PRODUCTIVE not BUSY - POWER OF SAYING NO : As a culture we fail to say NO and in the flow we keep praising people and taking up jobs which are non productive to us and keep ourselves unnecessary busy. Finally at the end of the day we are exhausted with our BUSYNESS not PRODUCTIVENESS. Learn the ART of SAYING NO to respect your energy and time rather than respecting anyone else. Once you have streamlined all your work be it personal or professional you will definitely see productivity. Try to streamline the week or month in the beginning only so that you know what is ahead of you.
- DELEGATION is the Road to SUCCESS : Sharing is Caring that is what we teach our children but do we share our job and responsibility. We keep everything to ourselves thinking we only can do everything and the other person has no potential. That is a wrong mindset. Sharing your job with your colleagues or family only helps you in taking up new jobs and responsibility and you are not stuck in doing mundane jobs every-time. It give you time to focus on some other aspect of your life an d not just stick to what you are doing everyday. Learn the art how to DELEGATE the correct job to correct person.
- SELF CARE is not being SELFISH : In times where apart from doing all the above things perfectly one needs to take care of their health and fitness also. When your Body is Healthy and Mind is at Peace then you Perform at your best of your abilities. You focus more and fumble less. Have a me time and enjoy doing what you enjoy doing. That moment is yours and no one is allowed to interfere into it. Sneak out time for exercise and meditation so that your body is charged up to face the day with energy. Pamper yourself once a week with whatever you love to do or get pampered by so that you are rejuvenated for the next week. Doing all this is not being SELFISH its being SELF AWARE and giving yourself that care to work round the clock. Every machine needs Maintenance to perform better. Human body is the most complicated machine and this care is a need.
I would like to commence by saying ENJOY YOUR SUCCESS ENJOY YOUR JOURNEY but more than than ENJOY BEING YOU. You always have a choice to be BITTER or BETTER and we choose to be the BETTER SELF in all forms of our life. So choose your pick and keep going.
