The US ranks in the bottom 20%, number 30 out of 38 countries, in work/life balance.
Yes, you read that right.
Are we working ourselves to death?
With a high percentage of people working over 50 hours a week and less time spent on personal care and leisure activities, the US has a real problem with prioritizing time. So when work is so demanding, is a healthy work/life balance really possible?
Our constant connection, via phone, email, and instant messaging has made out work connections closer than ever. While we now have opportunities to handle urgent issues quickly, the invasive nature of our work causes stress during off hours. Almost 60% of employees say that technology has ruined the modern family dinner, now that employers seem to expect responses at any hour of the day. As a result, 40% of people say it’s ok to answer a work call or email while at the dinner table.
While ups and downs are all part of anyone’s life, maintaining balance in our personal and professional lives is essential to keeping stress at bay. Take a look at this infographic for more on how to develop a well-balanced and fulfilling life, both on and off the clock. What does a work/life balance look like to you?
