Work Life Balance Doesn't Exist

Anyone who runs their own business or is at the top of their game in any commercial enterprise knows that there is no such thing as Work Life Balance. We believe the phrase Work Life Integration may be a better focus.
Balance Doesn’t Exist
If you are committed to serving your clients at the highest level, taking care of your people, delivering more value, improving efficiency, optimising your supply chain and increasing profitability there is little opportunity to get the preferred work life balance.
Most of the time you are:
- On the Run
- On the Clock
- On the Edge
- On Call
The reality of being a business owner is that you are always ON. You are rarely OFF.
You have to be:
- Ready to Respond
- Ready to Answer the Phone
- Ready to Solve the Problem
- Ready to Go!
The way we respond to stimuli, interpret our world and the set ourselves up for success is paramount to our ongoing health and wealth.
If you love what you do and you choose to work at what you do, one solution is to change your mindset from Work Life Balance to Work Life Integration.
Work Life Integration gives you the freedom and flexibility to choose when and where you work. It enables you to be creative with planning your work times and your non work times. Not just on a day to day basis but all throughout the year.
This is even more relevant in these uncertain times when most of us are transitioning to working from home. Work will still continue for most of us, it will just look and feel different.
Integrating your Life with your Work has so many benefits.
“The key to successful Work Life Integration is to ensure you are well supported with the technology you need to do your work any time and in any place. This will give you the confidence to continue running your business from anywhere in the world”
Work + Life Integration
Firstly, think about how you can modify the work you do so that it improves the quality of your life wherever you are. You may want more time with your family, more time for learning or education, more time for travel, more time with your friends.
Plan to be where you want to be, when you want. Then enable yourself with the right mindset and technologies to do the required work.
How can you improve:
- Your Mindset?
- Your Systems?
- Your Processes?
- Your Technology?
- Your Operations?
It is imperative that you organise and optimise your systems, processes, technology and operations so that they support the life you want.

4 年Congratulations Michelle - you are living what you believe. Work Life Integration is a great outcome for CMC.
Transforming businesses
4 年Better still, do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.
It is definitely a challenge to separate work and personal life, but important to try and create some down time where possible.

4 年Agree. In 50 years, I have never seen it. With top people in business or sports, you never hear them bring up “work/life balance.”
