Work-Life Balance: A Coaching Conversation (11.10)

“You don’t feel guilty because of your choices. You feel guilty because of the way you think about your choices."
Sarah feels guilty all the time. When she takes care of her work she's not taking care of her children, and when she takes care of her children, she's not taking care of her work. She wants to "not feel bad when I make decisions either side. But, "If I prioritize work, I feel guilty about my children, and if I prioritize my children I feel guilty about my work."
Sarah has unconsciously adopted a cultural standard of what it means to be a good mom that is not serving her. In this conversation we expose the real guilty party, and discuss how to deal with it.
Thanks to BetterUp for their gracious permission to use this coaching session they filmed for their Shift Conference.

6 年My wife once said - You don’t like to take my calls while you are in office, quite understandable. However, why do you take official calls or attend meetings over video, when you are home? I was challenged to think ?? & take some corrective steps to create a balance. I wasn’t surprised that my team had some similar inputs & a 360 degree feedback helped change things for better. #Change # Collaborate # Empower #Happiness.

6 年Fully agreed on that the balance is long gone! =) I vote for "integration" of the two as what came out in the end of the session.
