Work from Home or work from office! HR dilemma in changing world
Vinay comes from a small town in Maharashtra(India). Post engineering in 2019 he joined one of the top global IT companies in Mumbai.Things went well in first year and he was well settled in Mumbai.However, situation changed in March 2020 when lockdown started.He never thought that he will work from home for next couple of years. Like his friend he also took a decision to move to his hometown along with the laptop provided by company.
Easy availability of internet made work from home possible.He was happy that along with his work he got a chance to take care of his elderly parents who were not keeping well. Company was satisfied since employee productivity was at its pick .
However, in Dec 2021?when things started coming back to normal his company decided for work from office .Vinay was a in dual mind about returning to office .He was worried about his parents health.After spending lifetime in small town Vinay’s parents were not keen to move to Mumbai. With a heavy heart he sent a mail to HR and convey the message that given a choice he will be keen to work from home or only few months from office(hybrid). In a mail he assured that there won't be any impact on productivity.He further continued If nothing is agreed by HR then he had no choice but to look for other options where hybrid work is allowed
Like Vinay ; HR did receive mails from multiple employees for hybrid work. Many of them were worried about catching infection in office.HR was a in a dilemma--Work from Home or work from office!
The story is same for many corporates . Pandemic changed the corporates way of business. On one side corporate adopted the policy of work from home but on other side this created huge challenges for HR .
1)HR does not have a visibility of their employees’ strengths across globe
2)HR is heavily reliant on IT teams to provide visibility of their employees WFA locations for governance . However, IT is taking long time for the reports since they don’t have any tool for same.
3)HR dilemma – How to do risk assessment, employees reimbursement package , project compliance requirement, employee governance for WFA(work from anywhere) employees

4)HR realized that traditional way of timesheet has become cumbersome ,inaccurate and simple not going to work in WFA situation
