Shiva came fast from his room to the hall where his father was sitting and watching television. “Dad, can you please reduce the sound of the television? I am working from home, and my colleagues can decipher what is going on the television. They are laughing.” Shiva was indeed angry. ?Mr. Kumar, his father switched off the television in response. He looked at his wife and said “How long would I sit here without any work? Let me go out and come after an hour.” His wife understood the predicaments and was silent.
“Harish, get ready. It is getting late to the school.” Lata was stressed as she wanted to see that Harish is on time to board the bus for the school. Harish, who was studying in class 8, was ready and he looked at his mother and said, “I wish I also had only two days school in the week and the rest of the days ‘schooling from home’, just like Dad. If dad can do all his work sitting at home, can’t I learn all that from home with so much of technology available?” Lata knew that his question was sensible, but she was happy that at least a few hours he is away from home.?
“Work from home’ is indeed triggering the idea of “Learn from home’ which is a distinct possibility in the next couple of years. With the process of learning breaking all boundaries including time and space, both parents and schools have started getting worried about how the technology would impact socio-emotional content of human interactions in the years to come and consequently how people would learn. As such ‘learning’ would relate to the ‘learnability’ of the learner which would be facilitated through ‘self-learning’ and ‘non-routine learning.’
“What would this young fellow learn sitting at home?” – the worried grandfather conditioned by his previous experiences was lamenting. ‘There will be no accountability for his learning. At school I can question the teacher if he doesn’t learn? Further, I pay so much fee not for his bookish learning but for ‘socio-emotional learning’ contended. Mr. Francis, the father of Jude.
“Schools seem to be washing out their responsibility” complained Monica, who was finding it difficult to control her son at home.
The concept of work and learning are evolving to their newer structures with newer facets of technology opening wider possibilities of conserving time and energy. Murali, the HR head of a corporate company argued that the ‘work from home’ helps to solve several problems – space in offices, trade unionism in offices, inter-personnel conflicts in offices and the like, apart from it acting as a cost-cutter in infra-administration.
“Boss” Ravi Kapur drew the attention of everyone in the Town hall of the office. “I am investing on furniture, electricity, telephone, and several other things at home because of ‘work from home.’ Will the office try to compensate at least a few?"?
Ankit Choudhry had another point. “Sir, after the ‘work from home’ orders, I had to move to a three- bed room house from the two. In the two-bed room apartment, it is difficult to stay focused to complete your work on time. I am just leaving my newly purchased apartment to a larger one. My expenditure is sky rocketing. Will HR have a more compassionate view to the staff?’
Shilpa put up her hand. “Mr. President. While we are expected to log in at scheduled time in the office, in the ‘work from home’ culture, the work delivery always calls for work engagement robbing us of several other family duties we must perform. As such I have no time to go to the kitchen; I order for my food from agencies at least five days a week. Do you know how much it affects my budget and the purse?”
The invisible challenges coded through ‘work from home’ are many; yet it is developing as a way forward to office relationships in the future.
Says Michael Dell, the CEO of Dell, “Technology now allows people to connect anytime, anywhere, to anyone in the world, from almost any device. This is dramatically changing the way people work, facilitating 24/7 collaboration with colleagues who are dispersed across time zones, countries, and continents.” \
“People are more productive working from home than people would have expected. Some people thought that everything was just going to fall apart, and it hasn’t” says Mark Zuckerberg, CEO, Meta Platforms Inc

“Dear parent, as we are having ‘Learning from Home,’ it is not possible for us to reach to all children online. So, we are looking for shared responsibility as it concerns the betterment of your child. To facilitate you to check the same, we have sent to you both the solutions to the questions, along with the guidelines for evaluation. We look forward to your cooperation.”
“How would the new styles of offices and roleplay of people will manifest in the future?”? the psychologists had no answer. “We need to wait and see. We need to be ready for anything.”
“Amma, don’t worry, give me your question. I will get you several answers – from Gemini, ChatGPT, and my AI platform.’ You know you will have no difficulty in evaluating them, because I have got all the answers for the questions only from ChatGPT. It cannot, rather, should not go wrong.” The son paused for a while. “But, mom, get me something to eat. I am hungry.”
“Listen, son. I have just taken a break from my meeting. I have no time to do all these things. By the way, aren’t you in the class? ?Ajoy laughed uncontrollably.” I have put the system on mute. She won’t know where I am and what am I doing?”
Ms. Smitha responded “Listen, In the next open house of your school I will raise the question – ‘Why should we have ‘learn from home”? We want to have the children only at the school.”
“Good Idea” responded the young Ajoy. “But what about telling your office that ‘we want to work only from the office?’
