Work Feels Like a Holiday with a Clear Vision

Work Feels Like a Holiday with a Clear Vision

In the past couple of weeks, as clients and colleagues have been returning from holidays, I’ve noticed something interesting. Some people drag themselves back to work, already daydreaming about their next escape, while others return energized and ready to dive into what’s next.

As someone always curious, I couldn’t help but wonder what sets these groups apart. It’s not that the second group is full of workaholics—they just have something extra fueling them. Then it hit me: they aren’t just clocking in; they know what’s ahead and what they want to accomplish. In other words, they have a clear vision.

A dream ends at sunrise. A vision follows you all day long.

Beyond Dreams and Wishful Thinking

Dreams are great—they give us something to reach for. But here’s the thing: dreams are fragile. They can evaporate once reality hits. They start to feel unreachable, we get busy, we move on to other things. When your dream is just a wish, it fades as soon as you wake up.

Vision, though? Vision sticks with you. It’s that spark that keeps the engine running, even when the road gets bumpy. A vision is what gets you out of bed in the morning, ready to take on the world. It’s the bridge between where you are now and where you want to be.

When you've got a vision, your work isn’t something you dread to come back to—even when it’s not the perfect fit. You see it as one of the many stepping stones of your adventure. Vision is what keeps you motivated and turns every task into an opportunity for growth and learning.

Turning Your Vision into Action

Don’t have a vision yet? Or maybe you’ve got one but aren’t sure how to get moving? Here’s how you can turn that fuzzy dream into something real:

1. Clarify Your Why:

???What gets you fired up? What’s the big thing that drives you? Knowing your “why” is the first step in creating a vision that sticks. Without it, you’re just floating around with no direction.

2. Set Specific, Achievable Goals:

???Break down your vision into clear, bite-sized goals. A vision stretches far into the future, so you need practical steps to keep you on track.?

3. Visualize Daily:

???Keep that vision front and centre. Whether it’s a quick morning reflection, a vision board, or even a quick check-in on your goals, make sure you’re seeing your vision every single day. It’ll keep you focused and fired up, even when things get tough.

When you have a well-defined vision, work becomes one of many exciting elements in your journey. Keep your vision sharp, and watch as it transforms your approach to everything you do.

With purpose,

This is really insightful as I just returned from a vacation that I take once a year for less than two weeks. I'm going through burnout and when I returned, it felt 10 times harder to deal with work. And yes, I started looking right away for hotels for next year. I would love to have a job traveling. Something where I can either work hybrid out of an RV or get a job where driving cars from point A to point B would be a dream job!
