WordPress 5.4
Carlos Barberena
Software engineer, tech nerd, Jack of all trades, master of none.
I've been extremely busy with back-end maintenance on the network. A lot of updates, which require back-ups, and hopefully it's plug and play.
Albeit as advanced as the tech has become, the only thing that comes to my mind after twenty-plus years in technology.
The best laid plans of mice and man, often go awry
I consider myself an advanced user of Wordpress, and it's taken me ten plus years to get to this point. You see, I started Single N Dating, back in 2008 when blogging was popular. This was five years after Mike Little and Matt Mullenweg forked the b2/cafelog code.
The majority will have no idea since this was during the early years of the internet you know today. I say early after 2000 and the infamous y2K. Cafelog was "forked" basically copied, and tinkered with till WordPress was born.
Some might recall "blogging" was the cool thing on the internet. If you had a blog you were an early adopter of tech. But, the caveat was still the Achilles heel for the industry.
Infrastructure, moreover navigating the complexities of maintaining a blog, especially if it grew - still required a skill set. The fact is, the majority still believe you have to have a special set of skills to be able to create anything online.
Mike, Matt, and several other internet pioneers are the real heroes of the information age. For them and many greats like them believed in the mantra of Open Source especially for stronger support through communities (herd).
Copying a "source code" which had been made available by someone else, who also believed in a mantra that society takes for granted is pretty unlikely today.
E Pluribus Unum
Out of many, one happens to be the United States "motto." Conversely, something that in my opinion is counterintuitive to "capitalism" - I digress. Open Source like Wordpress, which runs on PHP, mostly likely on a Linux box, comprises of more than 100+ Million websites.
Websites you visit. To be specific, Wordpress is on an estimated one hundred and thirty million websites (130mill.) and growing. Although you don't need to consider why there have been upgrades. You at least should build your own Wordpress site, the software is free, the tools are free, the community is free, and if you're reading this.
I will provide you with the free hosting plan, if you grow, we grow, if we grow, the community grows. It goes without saying that during these difficult times, we have all been able to witness the glory and power of "SPREAD"
So while everyone else is consumed with all things considered, maybe this is the opportunity you have been waiting for to get your thoughts and ideas to fruition. I promise you, there is nothing negative about this experience.
I will do my part to help as many, I too am unemployed, my partner is in the 2% of morbidity due to rare lung disease, we have four kids, and have no idea what tomorrow brings.
That said, I have made the decision, that it was time I did everything I can to help others, even if its at a time of confinement. Education is the key to the plethora of societal issues, so when it's free and readily available through the palms of your hands.
Are you really doing everything you can to weather the storm?
Carpe Diem
