Word of Year 2022

Word of Year 2022

Those who know me know that learning & growth is one of the most important values & drivers in my life. Every year I set my personal OKRs (objectives & key results) in a few key aspects of my life (professional, emotional, mental, physical & spiritual) and review the progress. A few years ago, I started a new practice in my new year ritual and that is to choose "Word of Year". In addition to specific & measurable goals, choosing a word of year helped me guide my attitude, behaviours & decisions throughout the year. I also learned the power of this one word as it attracts types of experiences that I would like to have.

What is it??

Choosing ONE word to start a year with clarity, intention & purpose.?

How to do it??

  1. Ask a few questions to brainstorm keywords. Suggest to do the exercise in an environment where you can relax & focus.

  • What do you want to STOP ? Sometimes, it's easier to think of what you DON'T want than what you hope for.
  • What do you want to CONTINUE or experience more of? What kind of feelings, thoughts, or events that you wish to experience? When did you feel most fulfilled in the last year and what contributed to it?
  • What quality would drastically change your life for the better? Think of your strengths & values, or qualities that you admire most from others. What will bring the most positive impact to your life?
  • What are your goals this year and in order to achieve them, what do you need to be?

2. Write down all the words coming to your mind. And select the top 5 and then top 3 words that resonate most with you.

3. Here comes the most difficult part. Choose ONE word out of 3. You may feel fear of missing out or worry of choosing the wrong word. I encourage you to still choose one so you can channel your energy better. Fast forward one year from now, which word would grow you most?

4. Once you have the word, have a prompt that can remind you of it. Background on PC or mobile, memento, or visuals.

The word that came to me this year is COURAGE. I want to be more daring & brave and will try something new in spite of fear. ?I'm extremely hopeful and excited to see what this year will bring to all of us.

Happy lunar new year!
