The word is out. Don Sr. is a dictator. No question. He even said it himself, on ‘day 1’ he will declare dictatorship.
It was Joy-Ann Reid? believe who first bravely used the unspeakable word among democrats, dictator. Then shortly there afterwards Timothy Snyder, who in my judgment is the very rare exemplary scholar whose scholarship on authoritarian leaders and authoritarianism—how it occurs. Such dictators establish near religiously indelible cruelty.

They intentionally create political legacies that guarantees their— no pun intended staying power. Notice the terms in office that Putin has served, Castro, Perón, et al.

These actual presidents of admittedly authoritarian heads of State, yet in some aspiring democracies in their own right, took over nations, as well as bordering states such as Russia’s takeover of Crimea, aspiring now to absorb Ukraine and beyond, possibly even Poland (again vulnerable to military empires from the near east.

Let’s not as a still-youthful republic—not make the same mistake again. Make no mistake: It could happen here. Even if under the guise of a non- military second civil war. As a nation, I believe we need vigilance, courage to call names and words out when needed, and not assume things will work out.
