There is not an organization in the world that doesn’t use Word of Mouth as part of their marketing strategy. Really, who doesn’t want their satisfied customers talking about their business? For larger companies, it is just product of their other marketing schemes. For smaller companies, it may be the only marketing a company does. So why is that? Word of Mouth Marketing is little or no cost to a business. It is also little or no effort to a small company. It could mean as little as, “Tell all your friends about our little store.”
So what could be wrong with Word of Mouth? Control. Essentially, Word of Mouth Marketing is what your customers say about your company when you are not around. Do you know what they are saying? Are you directing that message? Most likely, one of the many times you know Word of Mouth is working is when a potential customer comes to your business with a claim that they interpreted from one of you current clients. Besides selling this prospect, you must first correct the information they received.
I am not here to dissuade you from using Word of Mouth, and I’m far from telling you it doesn’t work. I wouldn’t be on my own personal pursuit of becoming a Word of Mouth Marketing Master if I wasn’t a believer. What I want to tell you is how to Empower your Word of Mouth and bring more people to you that are ready to buy. To do that, you need to have that message that is being spread by you company’s cheerleaders to be consistent and refined. One of the best ways to do that is have documented testimonials. When a customer records their thoughts on your business, it gives you a chance to see what they are saying when you are not around. You have the opportunity to refine their message, and if necessary, correct it.
So where can you go from there? Post those sentiments everywhere, in your store, on your social media, and in emails. Online is available twenty-four hours a day, every day of the year.
