Word of the Day: Rivalry.

Rivalry is defined as a situation in which people, businesses, etc. compete with each other for the same thing, according to Cambridge Dictionary.
My personal definition of rivalry, specifically the greatest rivalry in all of sports, is UNC vs. Duke. The UNC vs. Duke rivalry is one of the most competitive in college basketball. It is fueled by decades of on-court battles, legendary players, and to top it all off, the schools are only eight miles apart. On the weekend of our first meetup of the season, I wanted to dive into why this rivalry is considered one of the greatest in all of sports.
For my final project in MEJO 182: Foundations of Graphic Design, my professor, Grayson Mendenhall , assigned us with creating an infographic on Adobe Illustrator of something that is important to us. My mind started racing for ideas, but I quickly thought, “How about an infographic on UNC vs. Duke matchup?” This rivalry has been engrained in my mind since I was born, so I knew it was the perfect choice. This rivalry isn’t just about basketball; there is so much passion and history involved with the two institutions that I knew it had to be the focus of my project.
After I fully decided that I was going to create a graphic based on this rivalry, I quickly started looking into all of the facts between the two teams. There is so much history between the Tar Heels and the uglier shade of blue, so I did not have any trouble gathering the numbers of what needed to be included the infographic.

The graphic pretty much speaks for itself when it comes to showing how epic this rivalry really is, so I’ll let it do the talking. With today being the first matchup with Duke for the season, I am excited to see how the statistics change within these next two games, and maybe even more if we meet them in the postseason. Overall, this was a really fun project for me to create because it let me explore the rivalry that I love so much.
P.S. Before you go, take a really close look at the stats—I think the numbers speak for themselves in showing which is the better shade of blue. :) Go Heels!
