The primal instinct of every human is to feel safe and connected. When our perception of safety and connection to others is "touched" through times like these, we naturally perceive a threat to ourselves. Feeling unsafe in any way causes stress and dysregulation of the nervous system. Each of us reacts to a threat of self in the common aspect of self-preservation, yet we also have different ways of expressing perceived or real threats. Every time we are out of sorts, it is an opportunity to take what arises and nurture it into a more excellent state of harmony. It is up to us to listen, receive and heal our embodied history or current response to get back into regulation, connection, and equanimity.
A word starting with "J" can get in the way, of us feeling good...
Judgment of another's reactions to being 'touched' by feelings of unsafety creates more significant disconnection and dysregulation, moving us closer towards isolation and separation and further away from feeling the safety and connection we inherently desire.
Extending kindness and compassion towards each other, regardless of opinion or perception.
?We cannot see one another objectively because all of us are looking through our perceptual lens colored by our own autobiographical, implicit, explicit memories and experiences. One can always find proof to back up one's perception. Our implicit and explicit memory combined with autobiographical memory, which integrates orbitofrontal attachment experiences foundation for emotional regulation, adds a sense of self to our story.
If we can realize and accept that there is no such thing as objective seeing, we begin to get to a place of kindness and more profound acceptance towards ourselves and, ultimately, each other. Understanding this at a deep level is key to moving towards unconditional love.
