Woorabinda

Woorabinda

Last Thursday I visited Woorabinda as their Government Champion, meeting with Mayor Joshua Weazel and his Council, and inspecting work sites in the community.

This was my first visit in 2021, and it was great to hear about the significant progress on various initiatives such as: the practical completion of the Woorabinda Arts and Cultural Centre in Duaringa; completion of the Black Boy Bridge crossing upgrade; funding proposals for the Woorabinda Community Centre; and activities under the Corporate Plan including the development of a Ranger Program.

It was also very encouraging to hear the renewed commitment from all parties for the road works Memorandum of Understanding, between TMR, Woorabinda Aboriginal Shire Council, Central Highlands Regional Council and DATSIP. Following analysis of skills, resources and governance, an updated MOU will see a revised works program aimed at creating sustainable employment opportunities and long-term road construction capacity and capability.

After the meeting I visited the site of the new gym, the Black Boy bridge upgrade and the Black Boy Camp, where we have worked with community to supply and fit suitable accommodation over several years.

Overall, it was another very positive visit. I look forward to working with and supporting Mayor Weazel and his Council to explore a wide range of opportunities and solutions as they continue to realise their vision for the community.
