It Won't Cost Much...Just Your Voice

Have you ever asked a teenager how they’re doing and they come back with “fine?” That can have hundreds of different meanings based on how they say it.
Tone of voice can completely shift the meaning and the feeling behind the exact same words.
This is true for your marketing copy as well. Today, many of us are experimenting with AI to help us create content. But getting AI to sound human is hard — much less getting it to sound like you.
An important but invisible aspect of your brand is your voice. This relates to tone and style — how you write as much as what you write (read more about how we define brand voice here ). Help your AI assistants to learn your voice and you will level up their usefulness tremendously.
1.?Upload a Sample and Ask for an Analysis
Some AI tools, like Claude AI from Anthropic , Jasper , and ChatGPT Pro from OpenAI , allow you to upload documents to reference. If the tool you’re using does not let you upload a document, you can copy and paste a sample for it to use as a reference. Then ask it to analyze the tone, voice, and style of the sample.
2. Make Sure You Agree
Do you agree? If you don’t think it’s accurate, upload more examples, ask it questions to clarify, and for advice on how to shift the tone to what you’re looking for. Once you feel confident that the tool understands your style ask it to summarize it in one sentence.
3. Ask it to Mimic
Take the one-sentence summary from the step above and ask it to write the material you need about your chosen topic using that style. Your prompt should look something like this:
“Can you please write a 300-word blog about using AI in marketing using an informative yet conversational marketing-professional voice with concise, actionable advice in a straightforward, friendly tone?”
By being specific and using the exact words the tool gave you earlier, you can expect the final product to require minimal editing.,
Giving up your voice is not the way to meet your perfect prince, princess or prospect.
Figuring out how to work with AI instead of trying to get AI to work for you is an essential point of this process. Have you tried using AI to generate branded content? What pitfalls did you encounter, and how did you address them? Let's start a conversation to help each other master consistent branding as we incorporate AI into our workflows.
