Wondering about ‘wonder’

You may not believe in miracles. You may find yourself constantly amazed and in awe of the incredible wonder in our world. Maybe the night sky evokes wonder in you. Maybe seeing the light shining and sparkling through your child’s eyes activates that deep sense of awe and wonder…

As adults, it can be hard to recall the last time we felt full of wonder and perhaps even more so as leaders where so much is contained into sensible, rational, considered ideas and language.

As a verb the word wonder opens the gateway to curiosity, inquiry, possibility…’I wonder’….this could signal the opening of the mind, the opening of the gateway to new possibilities. As a noun we get taken into the remarkable, the magnificent and even further to something which invokes our awe.

Opening to new possibilities and entering the world of wonder expands our vista, allows for things that may not seem possible or explainable to come forward into our awareness. We have the opportunity to go beyond our current ‘limitations’ or mental models.

It’s possible to imagine that the freedom from boundaried thinking is what allows some of the more innovative or hard to believe ideas and creations to emerge into the consciousness of the creator. Whilst we aren’t all designed to be the archetypal genius entrepreneur or wizard thinker, we can all embark on a practice where curiosity, being open to wondering and the potential ‘wondrous idea’ that might emerge, is within our capability.

The lightness that comes with wondering, and indeed wonder itself, is liberating in itself and freedom from the shackles of past thinking and ideas just might, might, open the way for the radical, heart-filled solutions that will reset the trajectory of humanity onto a more loving and greater good footing. Let’s all be the leaders who dare to wonder…what if…
