Wondering if ChatGPT fits into your work? Time to dive in.

Wondering if ChatGPT fits into your work? Time to dive in.

Last December, I led a Generative AI workshop at ZHdK's Strategic Design Masters. The goal? Show students how Design + AI helps drive business decisions. The highlight? Demonstrating ChatGPT's role in enhancing research and analysis through prompt engineering.

As I reflect on the work I’m doing, here's what I’ve learned:

Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT are game-changers for generalists

In strategy, entrepreneurship, and product, roles are often loosely defined — One thing in common is that most people are problem solvers who wear many hats. The ones juggling planning, diving into market and customer research, sifting through data, coming up with ideas, and managing it all. Generalists are essential in a world where flexibility and versatility is needed.

ChatGPT? It doubles your speed as a generalist. Need a workshop plan? Ask GPT. Interview guide? GPT's to the rescue. Analyzing market data is a breeze.

It won't get you 100% there the first time. But it gets you halfway in a fraction of the time; you cover the rest. That's the trick — it's a partnership, not a replacement.

Good questions are your superpower

Programming is one of the most high leverage skills anyone could learn in the past 20 years. Some think this is going away, I think there is still some time until that happens. What's evolving is the way we interact with software, the way we get computers to do things for us. It's a shift, not an end.

The key skill in this new model? Asking clear, precise and impactful questions, in a way an LLM can give you useful results – the essence of prompt engineering.?

CEOs guide organizations by identifying important questions for their businesses to focus on. Researchers contribute to human knowledge by asking critical questions and conducting thorough analysis.

Now everyone can harness the power of the most advanced AI systems available if they know how to ask.?

The way we create is evolving

Craft used to be about deep tool knowledge. Now, it's about coupling that with orchestration.

At first glance, management might not strike you as a craft. The tools aren't always visible, and the correlation between action and outcome isn't straightforward. Yet, anyone who has experienced the spectrum of management knows it requires a high degree of skill and finesse. Like any craftsmanship, the quality of outcomes varies greatly with the skill of the person.

Good management is about orchestration and enablement. Building trust, knowledge, and guidance to help make things happen. With the growing use of LLMs, the focus in creation is shifting towards this kind of orchestration. It's about having a panoramic view of our goals while interacting closely with an extensive range of tools to make our objectives a reality. Your ability to manage these tools impacts your ability to create.

Embrace the change. Dive into the world of AI. You'll be amazed at what you can achieve.

A shoutout to Thierry Rietsch at ZHdK for his trust and partnership. Thanks to Martin Meier for connecting us!
