A Wonderful Journey

When I wrote my introduction of “Why OneSignal” in the summer of 2018, OneSignal was a free push notification solution primarily used by mobile app developers.? The usage was massive (150k apps and websites, delivering 2.5 billion messages daily) for a team size of 17 when I joined.? The company had raised a series a, however there was no saas model or business dna.? Fast forward to the summer of 2024, OneSignal is now widely recognized as a customer engagement leader, utilized by approximately 20% of all mobile apps, and we’ve grown the business 50x (the team 10x, and OneSignal now delivers more than 12 billion messages daily).? After six years, though, it’s time for me to tackle a new challenge and let the wonderful group of leaders we’ve hired over the past few years elevate.?

I’m proud of the foundation we’ve built for a product-led growth company that lacked go-to-market people or processes to one built to scale 3x from where it is today.? OneSignal is confidently executing across three continents (US, EU and Asia), and we’ve built robust processes and operations.? I wish I could take much credit, but I was just one of many incredible people, almost all of whom remain and continue to do excellent work. ? From the one non-product person I inherited in 2028 who has become a fantastic leader Megan Patrylak (who now runs our EMEA & APAC business).? With the help and support of early hires such as Matt Foley, Thomas Maroufi, Jonathan Tillotson, among many others, we had incredible growth in 2019 and 2020, as we capitalized on the popularity of OneSignal and the general explosion for mobile engagement tools grew and then covid lockdown.? We raised a series b in 2019, and continued to grow the business through a series c financing in the summer of 2022.? By that point, Christy Huggins had previously joined to lead marketing; she inherited a small, understaffed, junior marketing team and has since filled in the gaps with tremendous experience and developed an outstanding, nimble, b2b revenue machine with the support of great hires such as Francesca Roncaglia.? Complementing this, and a big reason why it’s time for me to move on, is the addition of Garrick Jang in the fall of 2022.? Garrick took over a solid sales organization and refined it into a versatile, outbound machine.? Coupled with a small but mighty success team (led by Joshua Hollander) and a partnerships org (led by Al Harnisch), and a revenue ops team (led by Joseph Caputo), OneSignal is in great hands to continue to grow and achieve its founders (George Deglin & Long Vo’s) vision of democratizing customer engagement, and building an independent, publicly traded company.??

Key Accomplishments During My Tenure

  • Revenue:? Grown ARR 50X and approximately 100% CAGR over the past six years.??
  • Team Development: ?We built a sales, success, and partnerships organization across three continents, each contributing at least 20% of our revenue. Marketing has developed a robust lifecycle program to ensure we nurture users along their journey with OneSignal, supporting a handful of distinct GTM motions. ??
  • Community: From sub-30 G2 reviews to 800 and Leadership badges in 30+ categories. We have 40+ Customer Case Studies (e.g., Zenni saw a 2x Revenue Increase) and are a leader in the customer engagement category.
  • Business Tech: ?We had no marketing tech or process.? Today, we’re processing hundreds of daily signups and the million+ who use the product through a system architecture that drives urgency, education, and impact to prospects and customers alike.?

I am excited to continue to root as an alum, investor, and advisor in OneSignal’s continued success.? Some in the space call themselves an Italian sports car; OneSignal is a Toyota, a financially responsible, easy-to-use platform that unlocks business teams to drive discernible and sustained customer engagement impact.? For most B2C businesses, there is no better choice.

What’s next for me?? I will officially leave at the end of the current quarter. I’m looking to partner with a SaaS founder who wants a world-class business leader to bring enthusiasm unknown to mankind and build a repeatable, durable revenue factory. In the meantime, I’m taking some time to spend with my family and recharge for the next adventure ahead.?
