A wonderful experience: SDE Internship at Walmart

I distinctively remember how happy I was when I was selected as an SDE intern at Walmart, and while writing this I am even happier owing to the wonderful experience that I gained during my internship with a wonderful team.

My experience at Walmart as an SDE intern has been really really amazing.?Thanks a lot to my managers and my team members for providing me such a wonderful experience, and being there for me whenever I was in need.

It all started on 20th May where we had our session with the Campus team, then things were set up and soon I was assigned some tasks. I had joined my internship with the thought that I?have come here to have as much experience as I can, instead of having deadlines in my mind and take up the time till the deadline, I was trying to do my work as fast as I can so that I may get more exposure, and it sure helped me a lot.?

With a wonderful team member like Geetha, who was always there to help me out no matter what kind of issues I face, the journey was really smooth.?

As I did very good with my first task and that too a few days before the deadline team built trust in me, the team trusted me so much that they assigned a whole new component to work on, where I had to set up everything from scratch, that was the time where I used to talk to multiple people from different teams, trying to figure out something which no one in my team was aware of, it gave me a sense of something beyond a developer who just codes, it gave me a feeling of responsibility, ownership and a lot of trust by my team.?

After a lot of meetings, and going through the docs available I got some hold and was able to do a proof of concept on what my team was wanting to do, With it, we also got a new member, to work on the same component with me, and I was assigned the responsibility of on boarding her and helping her out in her initial days, this was really a great thing for me as an intern to onboard some new team member, again the team showed a lot of trust in me, here was the time I had to give whatever I got?from my team in past few days, I did my best to make her feel comfortable with workflow, and also gave the knowledge of what I had set up, and then we started to work on it and take it forward.

There is one incident which is really dear to me when I was working on setting up things, there was one senior developer who had some concerns regarding what we were setting up and he had raised those concerns to my team, even though he was a senior person, and I was thinking that whatever he is saying must be right, but my manager mailed me saying, "Do you really see them as concerns?", instead of just believing him,?he wanted to know my opinion and that was a huge trust that he put on me, I was a bit afraid that time, I had doubts that yeah those concerns may invalidate what I am doing, but in the end,?I was able to convince our architect and senior developer those really were not valid concerns, for me the lesson was, we should have confidence in ourselves, if I have done something with dedication and honesty, I will find a way.

Then things were settled we started to progress in the component more, We onboarded two more people in the team, and again I was given the responsibility,?In?the end, we were able to do a good amount of work before my internship was about to end.?

Last but not the least, my team set up the farewell for me, and one day before that my manager messages me for my address for filling out some important details, as my house number was not there, he asked me the location that gave me a bit of hint.

On my farewell day, I got a call from the delivery boy, I said I did not order anything, and in few minutes, I had this surprise cake from my team, it felt so good that the team made effort to give me a great farewell.?I had a wonderful farewell, the team shared a lot of things with me, I also shared a lot of stuff with my team, it never felt to me that I was an intern in the team, that's how good my team had been, no matter whom I ping everyone was there to help me out,?I am really grateful to all of the people in the team for being there, and providing me such a wonderful experience, where I got the experience of coding, managing and grooming new people, and raising some component on my own, here is the cake my team sent to me, excuse the Happy Birthday please lol.

Thanks a lot to my team and Walmart for giving me such a wonderful opportunity where I grew a lot with trust and care, I got a lot of exposure in terms of a lot of things, this experience will forever help me a lot in the future, will be forever to thankful to you all.
