Hello all,
To celebrate International Women's Day, I writing this article tapping into my heart ?? and life memory lane.
This is my Grandmother, Carolina Maria Bocas ( unfortunately she is not with us any longer ). I was raised by her and lived with her from the age of 7 days old until 27 years old before I moved from Lisbon to Brighton - England.
She was the true example of a warrior, who moved with the family from a Village in Portugal called Assumar near the border to Spain to Lisbon, like many others seeking a better life.
Life in those days was hard ( I guess ), my grandparents worked extremely hard day and night in order to be able to provide for the family.
My first memories as a kid were of my Grandmother working all night making Jackets for a small shop supplier in Lisboa. She looked after the house, the family , and me and then later in the day she started her " shift " during the night.
I've always witnessed, all my family working extremely hard. My Grandfather Manuel was the perfect example, of what hard work looked like. Then my Mum and Uncle followed suit.
I gained a lot of life values from this amazing Woman in the picture, she was special.....VERY SPECIAL. She had a gift to make others feel better about their lives, she consoled those in pain and passed on her deep faith with the right words at the right time.
I am writing this with a sense of pride and sorrow at the same time, on one end I wish she was still here with me, and on the other end, I am extremely proud and blessed to have had her influence and love. ( ops don't cry ....it's people around in the office).
I was always very influenced by women and had many Women as friends. And YES, you can have women as friends if you are a man ( I see this on the internet these days, what;s wrong with these people, this generation of TIK TIK, TUK TUK , TIK TOK you get me right ?! )
Well going back to my deep emotional connection with my GrandMother, she was everything to me. Now I am trying to be everything to others.
Putting things into perspective, fast forward the tap 40 years we need to address issues such as :
Employers are seeking to close the gap in gender equality and trying to support Women, this is much needed so more young people can have their Mum's love and support as they grow up.
As a Society, we tend to dismiss what is important and the repercussions that things can have in one's life, as more and more young people get into trouble with Drugs, Crime etc etc. Women's influence is of paramount importance, so we need to support Women more and more as they offer unlimited power to Society , Family and Work Colleagues.
I have to say this, sorry guys... Women are the stronger Sex ??.
To round up, my GrandMother always always made me feel special, in her memory - I am Special and so are You !!
Happy International Women's Day everyone.
