Women’s History Month
SGR’s 10 in 10 Note – March 13, 2024
March is Women’s History Month.?
A few years ago (actually many years ago), I came to a greater understanding of Women’s History Month and Black History Month and the commemoration of any month for any historically underrepresented group. I once?thought women make history and do great things all the time. People of color make history and do great things all the time. Why are they relegated to one month a year??
But I came to understand that it's not about putting the achievements of women or people of color or anyone else in a box and marking it February or March, etc.; it’s about dedicating a specified period of time to highlighting and honoring them so that we each become more conscious of their contributions to our society and our country throughout the year. Now that’s worthy of celebration.?
SGR and?AFI ?are honored to partner with?Envisio ,?Barrett & Greene , and the?League of Women in Government ?on the?Inspirational Women in Local Government?initiative to showcase the work of women in our industry. We’ll be working with them throughout this month to bring you stories and highlights about the women who strive to elevate and inspire those who serve in local governments around the country. We’re proud to be part of the project.?
For more information, I’ll refer you to a commentary?from?Elizabeth Steward, Vice President of Marketing & Research for Envisio, and the woman who was inspired to start Inspirational Women in Local Government.
