My fourth and final spotlight is Kara James.

What’s your favorite way to unwind? Working out on the Peloton

What technology can’t you live without? The internet

What’s your leadership style in three words: Communicator, Motivator, Integrity

I LOVE being a CPA, yet enrollment in college accounting majors and the total number of accountants and auditors has decreased over the past several years. I want to help fix that! Tell me, why did you become a CPA?

I became a CPA because at some point I wanted to go into forensic accounting and work for the FBI or CIA. I was always interested in shows like CSI.

What’s one of your most memorable professional moments? Why is it important to you?

My most memorable professional moment was the day I made Partner. I was able to finally realize a goal that I'd had and one that I knew would make my parents very proud!

What’s the one thing that has surprised you most about the accounting profession that you never would have expected?

How interesting it could be. It is definitely not only about the numbers! I was surprised how easily it could be related to what is happening in your everyday life. I was 24 when I purchased my first condo. Working in the banking auditing practice taught me what I needed to know to be able to make an educated decision.

What advice would you give your 22-year-old self?

To always be inquisitive! This is the time to really question and understand what you love to do.
