Women's History Month GM Celebration

In honor of Women's History Month, Student Quarters is shining a spotlight on some of their exceptional female leaders.?

These women have demonstrated tremendous skill and expertise in managing Student Quarters' properties and providing excellent customer service to residents. From overseeing maintenance and repairs to managing finances and budgets, these women have proven to be invaluable members of the Student Quarters team.?

Through their dedication and hard work, they serve as an inspiration to women in the industry and beyond. Student Quarters is proud to celebrate their achievements and contributions during Women's History Month and throughout the year. Meet some of the ladies of SQ below:

Ashley Samuelson - The Crossings

What keeps you motivated?

My daily motivation is watching my team grow and celebrate both personal and team successes!

What is your favorite quote?

"My life extends far beyond the limitations of me."

What is your definition of "leader"?

A leader is someone who leads by example and provides endless support and resources to their team to ensure they are knowledgeable and confident in their roles.?

Do you have a female role model? If so, who and why?

My female role model is Beyonce because I have just as many hours in the day as her so I have no excuse not to be building my own empire.

What is your favorite SQ Core Value and why?

Question the Status Quo is forever my favorite SQ core value. I've always said, "I'll never be the manager that tells you what you want to hear, I will be the one that tells you what you need to hear." The fact that I'm a part of a work culture that encourages those who speak up rather than treating it like insubordination is something I am thankful for on the daily.

Chloe Weigel - Lofts On 8th

What keeps you motivated?

Making other people happy & hoping that I can encourage others to work hard and grow too.

What is your favorite SQ Core Value and why?

Dedcated to WE before ME. Nobody can do everything alone. By having a team that is full of transparency and openness, people are able to feel heard, learn without fear of embarrassment, and be their authentic self.

Isabel Aguilar - The Balcony

What keeps you motivated?

Providing a service where the customers can see the clear distinction between just good ole customer service and being seen, heard, and recognized as the individual they are. Being recognized as someone who cares and loves their work keeps me going.

What is your favorite quote?

What is your definition of "leader"?

Leadership is an action, not a position. A true gauge of being a good leader is when those you have mentored or led move on to become successful or leaders themselves.? When you are a good leader others trust you to show them they way and your teachings are strong enough to support from the side lines and the team can still take it home without the leader having to ever swing the bat.?

Do you have a female role model? If so, who and why?

My great grandmother. When my great grandfather went to war she did not sit at home and wait for his return. She joined efforts and became a riveter. The slogan "we can do it" stays in my mind always. Being strong, battling gender norms, and showing how amazing women are has been an inspiration my entire life.

What is your favorite SQ Core Value and why?

Authentic & Genuine. I always search for spaces in this modern day where a kind soul is admired, social constructs are disrupted or broken, and I am able to be respected as a professional while also allowed to artistically express myself.

Julia Langford - The Hangout

What keeps you motivated?

My passion for this industry keeps me motivated.?

What is your definition of "leader"?

A leader to me is someone who not only instills confidence in their team, but it unafraid to get dirty with them. embodying "walk it like you talk it"

Do you have a female role model? If so, who and why?

The Notorious RBG, Ruth Bader Ginsburg - She rewrote the narrative and never let the discrimination and hardships she faced early in her life stop her from making the world a better place -she used it to make huge changes in constitution law. Seeing someone who used her experiences in life make her a better person is so inspirational and I strive to do that every day.??

What is your favorite SQ Core Value and why?

My favorite SQ Core Value is Question the Status Quo - having a core value like this says so much about Student Quarters. Not simply accepting "that's how we have always done it" but listening and making changes really makes the world of difference for a company and its employees. I am always someone who asks the questions and having a company behind me who truly appreciates that and values that means so much to me and is a huge part behind why I feel like Student Quarters was the right company for me!

Auburn Brooks - SQ Oxford

What keeps you motivated?

Overcoming challenges, leading a team to success, making an impact on others, and of course, new shoes.

What is your favorite quote?

What is your definition of "leader"?

Someone who motivates a team through challenging times and guides individuals through their career progressions. They foster a collaborative culture and lead by example.

Do you have a female role model? If so, who and why?

My grandmother! She is the glue to our family! She is the perfect representation of a #BossBabe who supports and motivates her family, is fearless no matter the situation (she beat CANCER TWICE), and a godly woman who pushes her family to always be kind to everyone!?

What is your favorite SQ Core Value and why?

Authentic and Genuine! It is the core value I strive to represent the most. There is nothing more rewarding than being able to be your absolute true self, and being genuine or caring to someone, and them appreciating or loving you for it. I want to be remembered as the person who was a positive influence, mostly goofy at times, but ALWAYS genuine to people and made them feel seen!

Criston Stafford - The Vista

What keeps you motivated?

My children! It is an incredibly difficult task raising tiny humans, but I want to always be the person they are proud of. I want to show them that nothing in life will be handed to them and that hard work and dedication pays off.?

What is your favorite quote?

What is your definition of "leader"?

My definition of a "leader" is someone who leads by example but is also open to any and all input by staff to make improvements.?

Do you have a female role model? If so, who and why?

My mother has always been my role model. She made sure the always provide me with the opportunities in life that she was never given. That may sound like a pretty common goal for all parents to have but she really went above and beyond for me. I'm the woman I am today because of my mother.?

Results! I like when I have clear goals to meet, finding strategies for each item, and executing.?

We Before Me. I love that each of my team members knows their specific roles, but without one another we recognize that we would not be able to achieve our goals as a team/community.

A leader motivates others to hit goals, They inspire, support, and influence the atmosphere of those they are around. A good leader knows when to ask for help or step aside and push their team to achieve goals and desires.?

What is your favorite SQ Core Value and why?

Authentic and Genuine is my absolute favorite. For a while, I always "contained my authentic self" to meet others' expectations. Once I realized I was tired of letting my true self hide I am truly my best version when I accept my difference and use those unique experiences to create a great environment for my team, residents/guarantors, and community.?

What keeps you motivated?

Fear of failure - I never want to let anyone down!?

What is your definition of "leader"?

A leader is someone that empowers & inspires others to achieve success. They have a 'we before me' mindset & understand that there is power in diversity.?

Do you have a female role model? If so, who and why?

The main person that comes to mind from a professional standpoint is Mandy Mewborn. The first time I met her was in the summer of 2020. She was about 7 months pregnant and had just flown cross country to assist a property with turn...in the middle of a pandemic! I admired her dedication and immediately respected her for it. There are a hundred reasons why I admire Mandy, but I think what I appreciate most is her overall character. Mandy is trustworthy, honest, dedicated, persistent, resilient, and confident. She has amazing intuition and always seems to know just what to say and how to say it. I look up to her because she is an example of the woman I aspire to be everyday; one that is strong and confident, yet understanding and friendly. I genuinely do not know how she manages all aspects of her life with such grace, but it's the biggest inspiration to me & proves that we, as women, can have it all.?

What is your favorite SQ Core Value and why?

My favorite core value is Unparalleled Engagement. I love this core value because it represents the importance of not just showing up, but taking ownership and initiative in your given role. I'm passionate about continual growth and development, and I've found that while remaining in-tune to the variables of life, we learn to adapt and propel forward. I personally see "Unparalleled Engagement" as the backbone of our core values - in order to be engaged, you must remain curious and ask questions, stay true to your most authentic self, dedicate yourself to the team, and remain steady through inevitable change. While it's impossible to prevent all mistakes, taking pride in your work, your team, and yourself allow you to remain consistent and resilient.?

These women serve as role models for aspiring professionals and show that with perseverance and hard work, anything is possible.
