Women's History Month: Explorers

Women's History Month: Explorers

Rounding out our celebration of Women’s History Month, we’re featuring women who continually explore ways in which dance, music, and reading enrich their lives.? Meet explorers of art and literature: Taylor, Kim, Sam, and Katelyn.

Taylor Waddell is a professional competitive dancer.

Taylor Waddell, Accounting Coordinator, recently joined the Chicago office.

“I love working with numbers, I am a big analytical thinker and really enjoy playing a role in how the internal part of a business flows.” Outside of work, Taylor loves to dance! She’s been a competitive dancer since childhood. Her passion for the art of dance and her competitive nature led her to take the sport of competitive dance to the professional level.

Kimberly Corbett Oates plays guitar and is a part of a band.

Kimberly Corbett Oates, a Partner based in our Dallas office, enjoys playing guitar to clear her mind and focus on the music. That enjoyment of and focus on music includes some outside-of-work audio mixing and video switching for livestreamed events. Kim shares, “My favorite thing about Women’s History Month, or other opportunities to highlight people from diverse backgrounds, is when I encounter stories I may not otherwise have discovered. There is such a rich anthology of tales about people who came before us who made a difference in their own circle of influence. These inspire me to think about what my own legacy might be.”

Bookworms Samantha Komber and Katelyn Le-Thompson share a couple of their current reads.

Samantha Komber, Project Lighting Designer, shares, “The Architectural Engineering program at Penn State combined my love for architecture, math, and science. My interests encompass design and psychology, too, which might explain why I’m such an avid reader!”

Katelyn Le-Thompson, Lighting Specialist, is a bookworm and can read a book a day if given the chance. She shares, “I am incredibly grateful for the women who have inspired me to pursue my passion in design. I’m thankful for my college advisor, Chris Binder, who guided my love of lighting design towards so many different areas of the industry.”

Sam and Katelyn quickly connected on their mutual love of books and began hosting an office book club. The group’s selections focus on works with strong female main characters. Recent reads include Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Reid, Everything I know About Love by Dolly Alderton, and they are reading their way through the Sarah J. Maas universe.
