History?

The history of Women's Equality Day dates back to 1971 when it was first celebrated as the anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which gave women the right to vote. In 1973, Congress passed a law making Women's Equality Day, a national holiday.?

Since then, women have made great strides in achieving equality in the workplace, education, and government. Nonetheless, there remains a significant amount of progress yet to be achieved. Gender inequality persists, as women continue to receive lower compensation than their male counterparts for identical tasks, while their presence in executive roles remains disproportionately low. Furthermore, they face an elevated risk of encountering violence and prejudice.

On Women's Equality Day, we celebrate the progress that women have made, but we also recommit ourselves to the work that still needs to be done. We must continue to fight for equal pay, equal representation, and an end to violence and discrimination against women.?
