International Women's Day is not just a date on the calendar; it's a celebration of the remarkable achievements, struggles, and triumphs of women across the globe. On March 8th, we come together to reflect on the progress made, advocate for change, and honour the courage and determination of ordinary women who have played extraordinary roles in shaping the history of their countries and communities.
Why International Women's Day?
International Women's Day is more than just a date on the calendar; it's a global movement that highlights the achievements, struggles, and ongoing fight for gender equality. It serves as a reminder of the progress made, the challenges that remain, and the collective efforts needed to create a more inclusive and equitable world for all genders.
Historical Roots and Significance
The choice of March 8th for International Women's Day holds deep historical significance. It traces back to the early 20th century and is intertwined with the women's movements during the Russian Revolution of 1917. Women in Russia, demanding bread and peace amidst World War I, initiated strikes and protests on March 8th (February 23rd in the Julian calendar then used in Russia), eventually leading to the overthrow of the tsar and the granting of suffrage to women.
Since then, March 8th has been recognized globally as a day to commemorate women's achievements and advocate for gender equality. It serves as a focal point for mobilizing support, raising awareness, and promoting women's rights and empowerment across various spheres of life.
Celebrating with Purpose: We Grow Forest Foundation
In its fourth year of celebration, the We Grow Forest Foundation is poised to mark International Women's Day with a blend of reflection, inspiration, and action. We Grow Forest Foundation, under the able guidance of Dr Meera Asmi and other dedicated individuals, has been working tirelessly to foster environmental sustainability while promoting gender equality. This year, the celebration takes on a special resonance as we witness respected women from various sectors of life coming together on March 6th at Hotel Dimora, Thiruvananthapuram.
The inauguration ceremony promises to be a memorable event with the esteemed presence of Smt. J. Chinchu Rani, Honourable Minister for Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development, Government of Kerala. Her commitment to public service and women's empowerment aligns seamlessly with the values we uphold at We Grow Forest Foundation. We are honoured to have Adv. V. K. Prasanth, Honourable Member of Legislative Assembly, Government of Kerala, presiding over the function. Their participation reflects the collective dedication towards the cause we champion.
Empowering Ordinary Women, Celebrating Extraordinary Contributions
Empowering ordinary women and celebrating their extraordinary contributions lies at the heart of Women's Day observance. Beyond spotlighting high-profile achievements, this day serves as a platform to honor the quiet yet impactful acts of courage and determination displayed by women in their everyday lives. From challenging stereotypes to breaking barriers, these silent revolutionaries play a crucial role in fostering community and societal advancement.
