Women's Day Reflection: Emotional Labour

This week, I was interviewed by a Masters student researching the emotional labour and regulation required of women in leadership roles. The conversation forced me to reflect on the emotional labour and the expectation for emotional regulation that is placed on women in the workplace, especially in leadership roles.

At Inscape, authenticity is a core value—not just in words but in practice. I believe that this commitment opens the door for all our staff, regardless of gender, to express their emotions without judgement. People are not scared to say when they feel overwhelmed; not scared to ask for help. This openness builds trust and strengthens our team dynamics. When expressing emotion—yes, even crying on occasion —isn't taboo, it leads to more compassionate and thoughtful leadership.

I'm grateful to work in a nurturing environment where we can openly discuss our emotional wellbeing. It makes all the difference. And yes, of course I bear some of the burden. But I also reap the fruit.
