Women's Day is Not Just About Women- It's for All-March 8th

What a beautiful week is this one! I feel an aura of positivity and energy with all the frenzy about Women's Day, be it social media, ad campaigns, or corporate events. Since 1911, on March 8th, every year womanhood is celebrated around the globe to honor the amazing women existing today and the remarkable one’s human race has ever witnessed. This day recognizes the impact women have made in all areas of life be it social, political, entrepreneurial, cultural, economic, or household.

I have so many women I look up to- my mother, teachers, colleagues, and corporate leaders. Every woman motivates me in one way or the other. Women have been out there whether it is managing homes, corporates, or even traveling to space. I am sure you would have a woman in your life, who continues to be our inspiration.

Let me share the basic history of this day. Things were made official in 1975 when the United Nations started celebrating this day.

However, about 150 years ago women did not enjoy what we do today, they did not have the right to vote, access to medical facilities, property rights, a seat in the parliament, being paid equally, or even the basic right to education. The list was long. Things did not change with the blink of an eye or by waving a magic wand. The change occurred slowly with the relentless efforts of women as well as men coming fighting together for empowerment. Today many women have access to education, healthcare, legal systems and freedom to win bread as well speak their minds.

In the contemporary age, I believe this day is not only for women. We are all equal. While, I’d like to recognize the achievements of all women out there and wish them all the very best for a bright and shining future, a huge shout and pat on the back to all men who help us be a better version of ourselves and contribute to our successes. And this is why Women's Day is not only for women.

We as humans, still have a few miles to cover and some work to do! We could start by breaking the barriers of stereotypes and gender biases. We need to make our boys learn how to cook and motivate our girls on making their careers. We need to stop saying ?“Boys don’t’ cry” or “Girls don’t talk that way”. We need to stop fitting in a box. You can’t change the world, but you can change one thought, do that now. Think of one small change you can bring towards the pledge for equality and parity for all. That's a true women's day!

Ayn Rand in one of his books wrote “?The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.” Remember nothing can stop you. We are free to fly, free to dream, and free to achieve anything we want.

Cheers to infinite successes, sunshine, and rainbows, to all women and men. Have an outstanding Women's Day on March 8th.
