The Women’s Center Annual Fundraiser Event During Sexual Assault Awareness Month
The Women’s Center hosted its largest fundraising event of the year at the EmPower Luncheon, on Wednesday, April 24th?at the Baird Center in Milwaukee.
This inspiring event is held annually on Denim Day during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. It brings together over 500 influential community leaders, businesses, and individuals to ignite hope and healing for survivors of sexual abuse.?The event this year was hosted by Emcee, Toya Washington. ?
For 47 years, The Women’s Center has provided safety, shelter, and support to empower all impacted by domestic abuse, sexual violence, child abuse, and trafficking.
They operate the only emergency shelter in Waukesha County dedicated to survivors of sexual assault and domestic abuse in addition to their 24-hour Hotline, transitional living, individual advocacy, support groups, and free onsite childcare.
Their programs and services are offered at no cost and are designed to provide a range of lifesaving and life-changing services that help survivors build their own futures free from violence.?
Denim Day is held annually on the last Wednesday of April during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. People were encouraged to wear denim to stand against victim-blaming and help educate others about sexual violence. ?
The 2024 featured speaker, Magdelana Ruiz, is a Milwaukee-native and lifelong survivor of intergenerational sexual and domestic abuse.
After losing her mother to domestic violence as an infant, she spent much of her life trapped in the same cycle of abuse. Despite the unimaginable tragedy, including the heartbreaking loss of her own son to suicide, she has emerged with an unyielding spirit.
This is an example of what fuels determination to break the cycle of abuse and to advocate for fellow victims to be given safe spaces to speak up, share their stories, and receive the help they need with dignity and respect.
Thanks to the generosity and dedication of all the supporters of the EmPower Luncheon and online auction that raised an outstanding $200,000 in revenue! This remarkable achievement underscores the unwavering commitment of our community to support the vital programs and services provided by The Women's Center.
Thanks to MKE Lifestyle Magazine and the "Out & About" section for your support! Stay tuned for more photos coming your way on MKE soon! Cheers! ????????Erol
