#womenenergize Portrait : Carmen Madrid
We first met Carmen Madrid in 2023 at the Women Energize Women conference in Munich, where her passion for advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in the energy sector truly stood out. Shortly after, we began collaborating with her newly launched WiSEu Network (Women in Solar & Storage Europe), which brings together professionals across the region to drive meaningful change. As the founder of Circular Synergies , Carmen continues to champion sustainable solutions and inclusive partnerships that pave the way for a resilient energy future. Let’s explore her inspiring journey and vision in the #WomenEnergize portrait series!
What is?your job and field of expertise?
I am the founder of Circular Synergies ,?a business consultancy focused on renewable energy and sustainability. We contribute to the SDGs through partnerships for the goals. We establish relationships with a network across the whole value chain to achieve a resilient energy transition. Our vision is to connect governments, financial institutions, renewable energy developers, technology and service providers, non-profit organisations, associations, and corporations to create business opportunities that ultimately benefit the planet while building welfare societies where everyone is treated according to equity, diversity and inclusion principles. To facilitate these partnerships, we create professional networks that help connect individuals through common values to lead the energy transition, starting with WiSEu Network (Women in Solar & Storage Europe).
Why did you enter the renewable energy sector?
As a media and events professional, I was part of the organisation of a hydropower trade show in Latin America. I fell in love with the idea of using natural resources to tackle climate change and shape a better world. I focused on solar energy as it is a source that can profoundly transform our societies by providing better opportunities to all individuals. I was part of international solar events teams, and then I decided to gain proper training on the subject to create my organisation and contribute to meaningful and successful business relationships that could really impact outcomes.

What are in your opinion the most important steps for advancing gender equality in the energy sector?
We need to send a clear message that equity, diversity and inclusion will put us all in a better position to overcome the challenges of the energy transition. There are many reports that prove how these aspects positively impact organisation's profits and industry innovation. We also need to understand from a data point of view what is dragging women and minorities behind. And ultimately, we need to ensure women's networks are called to the tables where associations and governments make decisions for us.
Are you part of a women’s network, and if yes, which?
I am the founder of?WiSEu Network (Women in Solar & Storage Europe). Created in February?2023, it gathers more than 1,100 professionals across more than 15 countries in the region.
