Women, the workplace and mental health

As every 8th of March, the situation of women in the workplace is once again in the spotlight. Unfortunately, female employees still encounter many obstacles in the workplace that negatively impact their career prospects and emotional well-being.?

Two common issues faced by women in the labor market are:?

  • The glass ceiling is the inability of many women to advance professionally due to an invisible barrier to progress. They cannot point it out to others or objectively demonstrate that it exists: they cannot argue that a rule disadvantages them, or it is written that there is no place for them at the top. They can see those positions from where they are thanks to the transparency of the glass, and apparently, nothing prevents them from reaching them.
  • The glass cliff is an effect that generally occurs when an organization goes through a crisis period and needs to find a figure to take charge of management or a position of great responsibility to help it out of that situation, precisely when that person is most likely to fail.

Making our way professionally is everyone’s responsibility, but it is strongly conditioned by socio-political phenomena that we cannot ignore. These conditions, sometimes deeply rooted and resistant to change, generate disadvantages and prevent many women from developing their professional careers as they would like to. As indicated, this generates different types of damage to society as a whole, but ultimately, to companies and female workers.

At ifeel, we offer our global service of emotional well-being for companies, designed by our team of psychologists, experts in well-being at work. This collaboration allows managers in the area of People, Talent, and Human Resources to receive personalized and data-based advice on how to take care of the psychological well-being of the teams they oversee.?
