Last year we published several articles called Women Who Overcame about little-known women who overcame major obstacles to achieve major success. We have decided to make these a regular feature because the doors of opportunity are finally opening for women. However, they still need encouragement and inspiration to believe they can go through them. We are starting the year with Ethel Smythe 1858 -1944. She was an English Composer and active Feminist who had to overcome both family and social obstacles to achieve what she did.
