Women Who Inspire: Lindsay Wilson’s Story

Women Who Inspire: Lindsay Wilson’s Story

At Structured, our people are the heart of everything we do. Their expertise, passion, and dedication are what drive our success. As part of Structured's herStory series, we’re excited to highlight Lindsay Wilson, an Inside Sales Support Specialist at Structured and a behind-the-scenes powerhouse driving the success of our sales team and customers.

Lindsay’s impact at Structured extends beyond day-to-day operations; she serves as a vital link between teams and customers. With over six years at Structured, she collaborates closely with account managers to keep deals progressing, address customer needs, and coordinate with engineers to develop the right solutions. More than just a support role, her position is built on trust. Account managers can rely on her to manage the details, while customers know they will receive the seamless, high-level service they expect.

Her path into tech wasn’t traditional. Before Structured, Lindsay worked as a project manager in a niche industry, but she never quite felt like she fit in. With a background in legal studies and a variety of roles under her belt—including everything from office management to managing events with ponies—she knew she wanted a career where both her skills and personality could thrive. That’s what she found at Structured: a workplace where she could be herself, work with a team of like-minded people, and build a career that aligned with her strengths.

Her advice for anyone considering a career in sales and customer support? Skills alone aren’t enough—you have to find an environment where you truly belong. Lindsay learned that being good at something doesn’t always mean it’s the right fit. But when she found a team that valued her expertise, collaboration style, and natural problem-solving ability, everything clicked.

Her journey proves that success isn’t just about what you do—it’s about where you do it, and who you do it with.

Read more below to learn about her experiences, challenges, and the impact she's making in the industry.

INTERVIEW:

Question: What is your role at Structured? Can you tell us a little bit about it?

Answer: I am an Inside Sales Support Specialist (ISS), and work closely with account managers to guide sales through the process.

Sometimes customers reach out knowing exactly what they need, and other times they need help figuring it out. While account managers focus on driving sales, ISS team members like myself, help facilitate quote requests, coordinate with engineers to build the right solutions, and ensure everything is vetted before it reaches the customer. From start to finish, an ISS plays a critical role in making sure the process runs smoothly.

?

Question: What is your favorite part about your position?

Answer: I’ve had jobs where I felt like the black sheep—like I didn’t fit in. Being here, being part of a team where I feel supported and valued, is incredible. The ISS team is my favorite part of my job. We just get each other.

?

Question: How did you get started in this field?

Answer: ?I was a project manager in a niche industry before this, but I never really felt like I belonged. When I saw the opportunity at Structured, I knew I wanted to work with a bunch of nerds—because those are my people. I had the skills and experience, but more than that, I wanted to be somewhere that felt like the right fit.

?

Question: What advice do you have for those who are just starting or interested in transitioning to a sales and customer support career in technology?

Answer: ?Just because you’re good at something doesn’t mean it’s the right career for you. I learned that the hard way.

I originally studied business technology, then got a degree in paralegal studies, thinking that was the right path for me. But when I entered the legal field, I realized that even though I had the skills, I didn’t have the right personality for it. It drained me.

Structured is the longest I’ve ever stayed at a job because, for the first time, my skill set and personality both fit. That’s what I’d tell anyone starting out: Don’t just think about what you’re good at—think about what feels right. You spend eight hours a day at work. If you hate it, it will follow you home.

?

Question: What was your initial impression of the tech industry when you started, and how have your perceptions changed as you’ve learned more?

Answer: At first, it was overwhelming. Coming from a different background, I felt like I had to learn everything all at once. But I realized that you don’t have to know everything—that’s why we have specialists.

Our engineers are experts in their fields, and I love that when you ask them about something they’re passionate about, they could talk all day. I’ve gone from feeling like an outsider to truly understanding the industry. And yes, I can now correctly pronounce all our vendors’ names!

?

Question: Can you describe a typical workday and how you help set up the sales team and customers for success?

Answer: My role is both reactive and proactive. We don’t work out of a set queue—we work out of our inbox. Our account managers are out traveling, networking, and meeting customers, so they rely on us to keep things moving.

For example, Rob, one of the account managers I support, might be in a customer meeting and message me: ‘Can we get this going in the next hour?’ My job is to make that happen, so when he’s still sitting in that meeting, he can impress the customer with a quick turnaround.

ISS and account managers work hand in hand—we don’t just support each other, we trust each other. That trust makes all the difference

?

Question: Are there any emerging technologies that you’re particularly excited about?

Answer: Penetration testing (pen testing) is one of the most fascinating things we do. It’s all about ethical hacking—trying to break in or break out of a system to identify vulnerabilities. A lot of companies don’t think about this until they have a security breach, but some of our customers do it annually as a proactive measure.
