Women in us

I’m sorry but I don’t think on International Women’s Day, we should wish women only.

It is a day amongst all other days of our lives, when we must seek and celebrate women within us. We celebrate women as our companion, our equals and our strengths and as us.

Let me give two examples from our faiths that is so relevant and applicable to us.

We seek equality for women today and forget that over 1400 years back Prophet’s wife rode camel alongside him on the same land where women had to fight till few years back to drive a car. We thought Saudi represents Islam ??.

Back home, Lord Shiva' is described as the unrivaled Human, an ultimate depiction of masculinity but a few of us remember ‘Ardhanishvara’ form of Shiva, which is half him and half Parvati. In order to become half Parvati, Shiva had to sacrifice half of himself.

To be a good human being, one must be both a man and woman at the same time, you cannot be a human without having shades of both. In order to accommodate that woman in us, let’s give up a bit of ourselves...

What does it mean to be a woman?

To me it means very simple things, it means to be a creator. It is almost impossible to comprehend this world without women, just look at the process of motherhood, it is unique and can only be borne, sustained and enjoyed by a woman. We men are incapable of that.

To be a protector, the very caress of a mother can assure the world to a child, a hug of a sister, wife or friend can make one forget the biggest challenge of life.

To be a nurturer. when I look around, I see almost everyone is nourished by a woman. Even if men participate in the process, nourishment to the entire family is almost always provided by a woman.

And the list goes on...

On this international women’s day, I wish ‘that woman in each one of us thrive’.
