Women in Testing: Spotlight on the barrier breaking Kedisaletse Kubayi

A warm-hearted technologist, who supports inclusion and diversity in the industry. Her perspective on the persistent pursuit for the importance of representation in software testing and the positive impact it can have on innovation and product development is both inspiring and enlightening. Kedisaletse is a sincere supporter of the beneficial impact AI and machine learning will have on the quality assurance. It gives me great pleasure to have her share her predictions and her preparations for this momentous move.

How would you describe yourself to someone you’ve never met before?

I am African. I believe in God and very passionate about software testing, which shows in my strong work ethic. I enjoy interacting with others and having open discussions about a variety of topics, including technology. Having positive relationships with people from various backgrounds is important to me. I am a wife, mother of four beautiful children, sister, and aunt, as well as the Head of Quality Assurance. In my spare time, I spend it doing things I enjoy, such as baking, hiking, mountain biking, going to the gym, and, most recently, indoor swimming. These are only a few of my many favorite activities.

When was a time in your career, you were really proud of yourself ? What made you proud and why?

Interesting question, because I have more than one of those proud moments, how-ever if I had to pick one, it would be when I was successful for the interview of my current position as Head of QA. This has been a long-awaited achievement in my software testing career.

How is your industry likely to change in the next 5 years?

Over the next five years, we can expect significant changes in the IT industry, particularly in the software testing space, but our biggest game changer will be AI. The world is moving toward machine learning, which focuses on using data and algorithms to enable machines to mimic the way humans learn and increase accuracy, as well as the drive for contextual customer value, which involves user-centered design that allows for guided use of products to customers, prompting relevant messages at the right time and context to motivate users to take action and derive value from the products in use, ultimately increasing customer satisfaction.

What do you think the impact of AI will be in software testing (manual and automation) and why?

Personally, I believe that artificial intelligence will have a huge influence on the software testing. Consider how much time it will save in test analysis and design and how rapidly the execution will happen. How aggressive will automation be?

The use of AI in software testing will also reduce the number of errors while improving system quality. On the downside, I don't see manual testing as a function that will persist to exist in the future, or perhaps the percentage of the need for manual testing will be less than 10%.
