On 9 August 1956, more than 20,000 South African women of all races marched to the Union Buildings in the country’s capital in protest against ethnic and gender bias. Fast forward sixty-six years to 2022, focussing away from politics and more on the technology space; we approached three prominent women in tech to share their experiences introspectively.?
A competitive technology space, (which might still be perceived as predominantly male) was no deterrent for these three dynamic South African women in technology innovation, who started their tech adventures years ago when there were even fewer women in this fast-expanding industry. OQLIS was privileged to chat with these inspiring ladies recently, who were asked the following question:?
What advice would you have given your younger self or young females in the technology space, starting in this fast-paced industry??

But at the end of the day, profits are reaped from strategic efforts.”
"The success in championing innovative solutions lies in having a collaborative mindset," she advises young women entering into the wild world of tech.?

Kelly Hoffman, CEO, and founder of tech companies Vocalysd.ai and AssetNinja , has simple guidance to her younger self or young women of today: “We are our biggest critics and tend to dim our curiosity by allowing fear to creep in. The imposter-syndrome fear, the fear of failing, wanting to be extraordinary but fearing you are the only one that believes you can be,” she says.????
“As leaders, we need to allow our teams to feel safe enough to push boundaries, ask questions, fail, and bounce back faster and stronger each time they do. As young women, don’t allow leadership failures to strip you of possibility. You deserve to be great.”
As young women, don’t allow leadership failures to strip you of possibility. You deserve to be great.
These are solid guidelines for young female techies. In summary, women embarking on their tech careers should remember:

? Believe in yourself, be courageous, and always remain positive
? Don’t allow fear to creep in, you deserve to be great!
