Women in Supply Chain

Women in Supply Chain

This year’s International Women’s Day 2023 theme aims to emphasize that “equity isn't just a nice-to-have, it's a must-have. A focus on gender equity needs to be part of every society's DNA.” At Shippeo, we have embedded gender equity into our company mission and firmly believe that the best way to be successful is by hiring diverse, straightforward, and motivated people with a passion for transforming and reshaping how the world works.

In 2021, women comprised 41% of the supply chain workforce (Gartner Survey). In 2022, large global technology firms, on average, accounted for nearly 33% of overall female representation in their workforces. (Forbes article)

As a prominent force within the tech and supply-chain industries, we believe Shippeo can positively contribute toward better gender equity for all. Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program is led by a committee of dedicated Shippians who share the same ethos for gender equality and diversity, and ensure these values are instilled within our company culture. They focus on engaging our employees and executive teams to embrace and promote ethical behavior and diversity in their working and everyday lives.

For this year’s International Women’s Day, we want to shine a light on women working in the supply chain and tech industries, starting with our very own Shippians!

Take a look at their stories below ??and hear our amazing employees talk about their experiences at Shippeo in the “Women at Shippeo” Youtube playlist.

“On the surface, the technology and supply chain space does not look like the most female-friendly place. But it has been the healthiest environment I've ever worked in since starting my career. I have been given increasing responsibilities in the company, I have the flexibility to juggle my duties as a mother of a small child while leading the marketing team.

What I value most is the positive impact I can have in coaching other women. This begins with the hiring process, ensuring that the team is gender-balanced and diverse. Secondly, I can coach, and support the extraordinary women of my team, and learn from them in return.

Finally and above all, I am the biggest fan of the women who work in Shippeo. I have seldom met such a high proportion of amazing women concentrated in a single business. My only wish is to see even more female-Shippians #WeAreHiring ??”

“It is very common to say that Tech is a very youth (and male) oriented industry. So, can women over a certain age find their place? I say definitively YES!

When I joined Shippeo in 2018, I was almost 45. At that time, we were 40 employees (we are now 220 ??) and the average age did not exceed 27 years. From my very first day, I knew that I was going to live a very enriching experience. I was particularly well received and very quickly integrated into the team - Of course, I had to adapt myself to new technologies & tools and to work and communicate while navigating in a fast-growing environment but when we share the same entrepreneurial and caring values and we feel young at heart, it is much easier! I quickly felt comfortable with my colleagues, boosted by their dynamism and ambition, trusted by my management team, and useful in sharing my experience and my knowledge.

Unfortunately, last year, during a routine screening, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had to take a break to heal and look after myself. The management team and my colleagues have been very understanding, supporting, and caring and haven’t hesitated to adapt my missions after my long sick leave. Now, breast cancer is behind me and I am so grateful to my colleagues for being back on the team!

I have one last piece of advice for you ladies: don’t forget to listen to your body and have a regular medical follow-up! “
